The Oscars: Avatar or The Hurt Locker for Best Film?

The two top contenders vie for best picture. Personally, The Hurt Locker was pure brilliance, and dare I say, a near-perfect film. Jeremy Remmer is truly terrific, and the rest of the crew works wonders. Many criticize it by calling it just another war in Iraq film, and that it does not portray the realism of the war well enough, but the point of the film is to portray human emotions, and it did a damn well good job. Avatar, well, I saw it in 3-D, and it's good eye-candy and all, and sure it may have been a turning point from 3-D just being a tool, but it really doesn't deserve best film next to other contenders like Inglourious Basterds (If Christoph Waltz, who plays Hans Landa, doesn't win an Oscar, the world is going to hell) & The Hurt Locker. If you don't watch movies fairly often, you'll have a great time, but anyone else, bring lots of popcorn to deal with the same old action movie with morals and cliches. If you're more into fantasy than action, then The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus is for you, not Avatar. Discuss with maturity please.

Avatar is one of those films that is only enjoyable on the first year or so after its release. However, since it relies entirely on technological gimmicks of the decade it was made, it will inevitably be outdated and outdone in a matter of years. Decades later, Avatar will be the laughing stock of cinema as youngsters wonder why anyone would spend so much money making a film so shallow and technologically unimpressive.

Inglourious basterds was created to show the evil of war i think. If it was then it really got the message across. Anyways, other than the fact that Avatar looked pretty cool i really didn't like it.

Man, Inglorious bastards? I don't want to bash on it, but may you explain how it was a good film? I found it really boring because it was just talking. Does my age play as a factor (I'm 15) and the previews were very deceitful because I thought it was an overall bad movie. I liked the acting though, good role play, but so boring. I really liked Avatar, self explanatory. never seen Hurt locker nor heard of it. AM checking it on google right now.

[/quote] Yes, you obviously must have no background on the film industry, and thus you missed all of the subtle hints and allusions made in that movie. You also were seeking a pure adrenaline rush like Avatar, forgetting that there are many other nuances that factor into movie-making. Don't mean to ruin your parade, but did you ever think to judge a movie by the tensions that he conversations create and how the director sets-up and guides the outcome of the conversations? You probably also didn't understand the deep-seated irony in the movie and how the viewer's expectations were deceived by actually killing Hitler--contrary to all past movies on assassination attempts. You also probably missed other historical tidbits thrown in the movie. It went over your head.

[/quote] Plenty of old movies manage to stick. Look at ET. Everything is going to get outdated eventually. The only award that matters is the one for Best Actor that Jeff Bridges either wins, or hell breaks lose.
