To skip to the point, get to the bottom. PAST THE LINE! There isn't really much I'm going to say since I'm trying to keep this thread pretty basic and short. What made me want to get a Mac is that I realize after 2-3 years, PCs tend to wear down and get slow + old. Macs usually can last a few more years than PCs. My school has iMacs from 2002 or 2003, and they run faster than our 2-year old Dells. Amazing, huh? ---------------------------------------------------------- I currently am a PC user and want to get a Mac. A lot of my friends have the Macbook Pro, but I'm not really in the need for a laptop because I already have one (its a Toshiba) and don't use it as much as my desktop. So for that same $1199 as the 13" Macbook Pro, I can get the new iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and so on. I'M NOT A PC GAMER, SO GRAPHICS AREN'T THAT IMPORTANT TO ME.... So if you have a Mac, would you recommend it? How does it serve you? Does it live up to its shiny screen and big price tag? Thanks Basil in advance!

Just for a sense of statistics here, I for one like PCs more than Macs.
tuffghost : Whatchu mean "slow down" My 4 year old desktop isn't slowing down.
What I mean is that its slower than most computers on the market today. Compare a compatible $800 Pentium 4 computer from 2005 to an $800 HP nowadays.

I have a Macbook Pro (had it for 2 years as of now), and it's been suiting me just fine. It's also a plus that I can run Windows on it as well in case I need to use a certain application. I probably won't need to replace it for a long time...

Yea at my school they have the 20inch new imacs and I really want one. I have a MBP 13" now and I love it. I'd definitely recommend the imacs because they're amazing.

Hardware-wise, Macs are essentially identical to "PC's". The human element is the main reason why they slow down "faster" than Macs do in the first place. If you maintain your computers, they won't slow down. (at least not significantly, as all hardware will eventually wear out anyways)
magich0ia : What was the point of this? It says at the end it's safe to buy the iMac. Why are most people on here so mac opposed? I like PCs and Macs, is there something wrong in liking both? :/
First of all, I was just letting him know that there was a possibility of receiving a faulty iMac should he buy it. Secondly, I'm typing this from my Macbook. I use both Macs and PCs, so stop assuming crap.
Computers are always upgrading to the newest technology. By the time you use your mac or pc, it will depreciate in value (every week or days). Apple uses "looks" and "software" to sell their laptops/pcs. Their hardware is something that's pretty low tech compared to a similar priced computer. Although I wouldn't mind buying one for the software and such, I would not otherwise pay for something overpriced. If it is something that you desire, than you should get it. But I will say that you could spend a lot less and get a pretty good laptop.
