| Atheist: Why did God create cancer? Possible Response #1: Believer: God created cancer to test humanity's faith. Atheist: I'm sorry, but is your God really so insecure, that he needs to test his people's faith that he supposedly love so much with diseases, natural disasters, and tragedies? So that humanity's love for him will be pure? Say your atheist brother has recently died from cancer, would you think that your brother's death is a test of your faith , that you will never see your him again since he is being tortured for eternity? I, for one, do not need to put my family members and best friends through trials and tribulations to test their love for me. God puts children to death every day to test the faiths of their mothers. I don't believe this homicidal sadistic murderer deserves worship. Possible Response #2: Believer: Satan created cancer. Atheist: Your God sat idly by and did nothing, or rather watched with pleasure as this little fallen angel of his roams around earth killing people. Again, this applies to #1. Your God is a cruel, unkind, and unloving God. If he does not care about human beings at all, that would greatly improve his credibility, but no, He loves us all, unless we have pre-marital sex or lie, then we get tortured for eternity. If Satan created cancer, then either God does nothing while the people he loves so much die, ergo he is not worth worshipping, or God is not powerful enough to rein his fallen angel in. If the latter is the case, then why don't we go worship Satan? Possible Response #3: Believer: It is all part of God's plan. Mortals like us could never comprehend what he is thinking. Atheist: This is perhaps the most hilarious of all responses. Then why do you pray? If you are asking for something that isn't part of God's plan, you won't get it, and if it's part of God's plan, you don't need to pray because it's going to happen that way, anyway. "Mortals like us could never comprehend what he is thinking." There is a huge and undeniable logic gap in this argument. If humans can't understand God, how can we understand what he is trying to tell us? How would humans know how to interpret the bible, and how would we understand any sort of characteristic or quality of God, since we don't understand him? Point in Case: The bible says that Jesus turned water into wine. For all we know, since we can't understand him, it could've said Patrick walked up the hill. Please keep this thread immaturity free. Also, before using the bible as a basis for argument, first prove that God exists or that the bible is truth, or else the argument would not be valid. |

| Typical atheist being confrontational about Christianity and pretending like a flamewar won't happen. Oh, and it really makes me wonder why all the atheists on Basil only seem to bother with Christianity and not any other religions. I'm beginning to think you're all just anti-Christian and nothing more. |

| Oh not another one of these threads meow. This is going to turn into a huge flame war... @Deciduous: I think its because other religions respect atheists more. I haven't heard any threads about a Buddhist or Jew trying to push their ideas on them. Christians aren't as tolerant. Or maybe the majority are Christians, but I don't know. |

| I don't really understand the first part and second part. Death is a necessary opposite for life. And evil is a necessary opposite for good. |

As for this thread, it is going to be a flame-war because of the confrontational mood that Deciduous talked about. |

 | I believe people worship god for FAITH. Go on thinking that when you die then that's that. If that's what you believe go ahead no one really cares! WHY DO YOU CARE IF SOMEONE HAS FAITH? IF YOU BELIEVE HE DOESN'T EXIST THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF POSTING CRAP LIKE THIS? |

[/quote] Well I can get why it doesn't happen with smaller religions like that, but with the other big two (Judaism and Islam) I'd at least expect to see something on that. I mean it would be pretty lame if atheists weren't versed in all religions to argue why they don't believe in them. |

| There are a lot more answers than what you posted. If you think about it, it makes sense. I have a question for you though. Why do atheists feel the need to shove their beliefs down everyones throats? It makes sense when religious people do so, because they think they are saving that person. Atheists have no reason to. Perhaps something forces you to contemplate the existence of God? |

| Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? ~Epicurus |
