Hey, so im seeing genetics in my class, and i found out interesting things about races. No, not races like people running to get first, but races. Asian, African, European, Latin, etc. Btw, Im asian. Plus, i hope you basilers are mature enough to not laugh at this, or to make fun of anyone else. All i want is no racism in the world...Yeah, i get laughed a bit because of my race. So here are the facts: There is nothing genetically different between races. So for example, we put an african and an asian together. They have no genetic differences. Human differences that do exist are cause by very few genes. Race is not based on biology. Only 1 in 1,000 nucleotide from one person is different from other people. A nucleotide is a cell that is part of the dna. The difference in skin color is because of the geography. So places in the equator or that have lots of sunlight are mostly going to be darker skined. People thought africans were meant to die and get sick. There were many scientists, many people saying african americans were inferior, but no. Actually not, humanity started in africa, so whos superior? Yeah. People said white people were superior to the africans or any other race, but when an African American won the Berlin sprint gold medal, scientists just said: They are more fit to sports because "they are more closely related to animals". i found this to be very offensive. Look, i mean no offence to ANYONE. I know there are many more things to know about races, but these are the things i wrote down. I dont want to offend white people as well, please, I dont mean to insult anyone. Just the racist people back in the days. Feel free to debate. :D

(See above) @below: Now you're getting into religion, too? Listen, we can't talk about race and religion at the same time. They are two different debates that must be had.
in fact, race has something to do with religion. If your some type of religion that believe God created us all, you do not believe in evolution. above, Dude...humans arent animals. If you mean we are categorized in that section, maybe yes. But if you believe in evolution, ill leave you to be.

Races are so based off of Biology. Over time, the peoples' biological traits will evolve to adapt to the geography. The DNA of people in Africa is going to adapt to that area, with darker skin and hair for example to protect from the sun's rays, whereas people from Northern Europe have lighter skin and hair. You can't say that there isn't anything genetically different between races, because there obviously is.

I like how OP dodged iMrKie's clarification. Also, typical person whose ignorant of evolution, no scientist ever claimed humans evolved from monkeys, humans and other primates share a common ancestor who happens to resemble a "monkey".

Just post this on anontalk and wait around a minute before your pathetic argument is destroyed. First, saying "Humanity started in Africa" is hilarious when you're trying to defend them. Does it mean Whites and Asians evolved while African Americans didn't? Our genome are only 5% different from chimpanzees. Africans Americans are more athletic because they live in a more harsh environment and when they were slaves, the most healthy and athletic were mated together.
jongphn : you gotta trust me...You can research it if you want to. Genetically there is no difference.
Genetic distance The 0.1% genetic difference that differentiates any two random humans is still the subject of much debate. The discovery that only 8% of this difference separates the major races led some scientists to proclaim that race is biologically meaningless. They argue that since genetic distance increases in a continuous manner any threshold or definitions would be arbitrary. Any two neighboring villages or towns will show some genetic differentiation from each other and thus could be defined as a race. Thus any attempt to classify races would be imposing an artificial discontinuity on what is otherwise a naturally occurring continuous phenomenon. However, other scientists disagree by claiming that the assertion that race is biologically meaningless is politically motivated and that genetic differences are significant. Neil Risch states that numerous studies over past decades have documented biological differences among the races with regard to susceptibility and natural history of a chronic disease. Effectively Neil Risch is attempting to redefine "race" for human populations to represent that small proportion of variation that is known to vary between continental populations. It is well established, that the level of differentiation between the continental human groups, as measured by the statistic FST is about 0.06-0.1 (6-10%), with about 5-10% of variation at the population level (that is between different populations occupying the same continent) and about 75-85% of variation within populations.Tempeton (1998) states that in biology a level of 0.25-0.3 (20-30%) of differentiation normally accepted in biological literature for a population to be considered a race or subspecies. "A standard criterion for a subspecies or race in the nonhuman literature under the traditional definition of a subspecies as a geographically circumbscribed, sharply differentiated population is to have FST values of at least 0.25 to 0.3 (Smith et al. 1997). Hence as judged by the criterion in the nonhuman literature, the human FST value is too small to have taxonomic significance under the traditional subspecies definition." Indeed Neil Risch himself avoids defining race, when asked to respond to the comment "Genome variation research does not support the existence of human races. he replied What is your definition of races? If you define it a certain way, maybe that's a valid statement. There is obviously still disagreement....Scientists always disagree! A lot of the problem is terminology. I'm not even sure what race means, people use it in many different ways. He continues, "but that doesn't preclude you from using it or the fact that it has utility". It's however you wanna look at it.
