| I'm having some confusion with the 2nd term. Say I have a question that asks: (w^2+6w+2)/(w+5) / = divided by ^2= to the power of 2 So when you divide with exponents, you subtract. meaning w^2/w=w. I'd write that in the answer area. However, what do I do with the 5 and the 6w? |

| When I divided this, I got w + 1 - (3/w+5). What do you mean "what do I do with the 5 and the 6w"? |

| It doesn't work that way for the question you have. You would have to fully factor the top trinomial, then cancel out any like factors. But in this case, that isn't possible. The only way is through long/synthetic division. |

I was sick that day, and our teacher is a genius but sucks at teaching so if I don't understand normally, it's harder when I'm sick and not paying attention. Anyways, synthetic is wayyy easier for me O_O |

| The answer is w + 1 - 3/(w+5) |

|
Survivalism : paint to the rescue
OH. Multiply the w that you found in that part of your answer by every term except the first one (in this case it's just the 5). You get 5w, obviously. Then you do (w^2 + 6w) - (w^2 + 5w) and get w. You bring the 3 down and repeat. |
