Right now I'm studying Macbeth in my English class. Because of how they talk, it's hard for me to interpret what they are saying. If you have studied Macbeth, or anything near it, what are some tips to understanding what they say?

I used Enotes instead of reading it straight from the book lol. Enotes has all the acts and scenes w/side by side translations. I had to read Macbeth first semester this year too :P

I say you should ask your teacher if you have any questions. The literature book I used for Macbeth during English class had annotations on the side, which explained some of their dialogue. I've never used that "enotes" thing, but it seems to also have annotations; you should give it a shot.

I absolutely HATE poetry with all my heart. I studied Romeo and Juliet last year, and it was TORTURE.

Check out No Fear Shakespeare, they have the original text on one side, and a translation in modern language on the other. H ere's the online version, there's also a book version.

Did R+J in last year and doing Othello this year. Never done Macbeth but basically just try to make sense of the words one by one and then put them together in a sentence because of the way the word order is. There's ALOT of figurative language in Shakespeare, especially sex related ones. If all else fails then try sparknotes but I've never had too much of a problem with it. There's summaries of the plot on the top of each page and definitions to the more complex words/phrases at the bottom of the books so yeah (assuming you're using Cambridge Shakespeare books).

Try sparknotes its also a really nice website with summaries of the acts as well. Macbeth is a rough play with the talk i know what ya mean man lol. But I found it pretty interesting if you can focus on it.

Sparknotes is what got my an A on my Literacy project. Read the whole thing online and understood it.

Shakespearean and Elizabethan text is always confusing for all of us. Hell, Shakespeare even made up his own words, so the crowd watching this are also asking what you are. Try as much not to rely on Sparknotes or other translations, because once you have the gist of it, it'll really help.

I took classes on Shakespeare so that's how I kicked some major butt on it. I heard Sparknotes is pretty good on Shakespeare, but overall Shmoop is way better.

I loved Macbeth, hm. We had to act out scenes for it as well. The language is almost similar to English, it's just worded differently. Take your time when reading it and don't try and rush through it, but there are some words in there that aren't used today and you'll have to either use notes on them or another source.
