Hey, Basilers this thread was made to help us stop the "fail" that has been brought over throughout the years. We all know that kids these days aren't the brightest. But why? And how we prevent our little cousins or family members from being to "modernized". Who am I? I'm Jimmy and I'm 16. At this time I currently work at this after school place where the children come after school and do their homework(NOT MY SCHOOL posters seem to think that o.o). During this time (since I'm the youngest of my family) I noticed that the whole school system has changed drastically. Looking back when I was younger I was doing harder problems than they are doing now. I at first though, it was just MY luck. That these children are way to "stupid" but as I browse around the internet and even basil itself, there are many threads in which the older generation complains about the younger ones. I stated my name for convenience but I stated my age for a different reason. I was born in the year 1994 as you can probably tell. I'm pretty sure that may have been the breaking point for modernization? What's the problem? Kids(1-9(maybe up to 13->Some are normal though.)) these days. That's the problem. They seem more: -Dumb -Unfocused -Spoiled This is for surprisingly 15+ -Sex Crave -Drugs -Alcohol (I would know, my sophomore year in tech is hated the most because we have a lot of "cool" sophomores smoking on the corners =.=) -Feel free to add more. Dumb?How so? Well first of all, I have 6th graders in that after school doing times tables. Thats right. 1x1=1 1x2=2 etc. That's their HW. That's not only the worst part of it. The worse part is they barely get any homework. I've been working there for like 2 months and there was only 1 day when EVER kid in that class had homework. Also I see that the BOE (NY) has changed the method of teaching. This is how they teach multiplication Lattice -Why can't they learn what WE learned. Why? Why are they simplifying EVERYTHING. Honestly math has to be "cool" now. There's also this second grader in my other room. Guess what? She can't subtract. Second grade and they can't subtract. She also doesn't know how to use a dictionary. There's also another one who is just, I cant even describe it. His homework is to write sentences, and he can't write it correctly. He even spelled "Of" wrong. Hes in third grade. His math homework is 5X3=? or "measure this line" and he gets those wrong. Sometimes we give up teaching him and we just tell him the answer. Guess what? He still does it wrong. Example. I told him the line is 7.5 CM long. Or 7 and a half. He writes 75 on the paper. /facepalm. Now I know I'm basing this off like 30-40 kids homework and 30 kids brainpower. Just asking is anyone else experiencing this with younger kids aswell? The kids can't focus As I work there I notice that most of the kids cannot focus on their work. They just CANT. Let you have to stare at them do their work. It's horrible. 50% of the 7th and 8th graders at the middle school in my city are failing... And I get your point, but some of what you're saying seems a bit over the top.

Every generation will look back and think that their generation had a harder time growing up. It's natural for us to think that things are more difficult to us than to someone else going through the same thing, when in all actuality it's just as hard to them.
