New Pin System thing

To my knowledge, this is what it is: We currently have a 4 digit 0-9 pin code. People are constantly being hacked for the obvious reason, i think, HELLO? That small of a pin's very easy to eventually figure out the combination. Thus this new system of basically a "PIN". It's now 6-24 characters long on top of our passwords and it's now 0-9 and A-Z. I don't honestly understand why people are thinking new pin type means we're going to get hacked even more often...It's an updated stronger security pin! Please, if for some reason you think I'm wrong, explain :D. This is all personal speculation on what this new PIN system is going off what I understood from reading the Nexon site.

That all really depends on if the PIC is inputted with the on screen keyboard or with your normal keyboard. If its on your normal keyboard that just makes it easier to get hacked if you're being keylogged that doesn't take screenshots as you click your screen. Also they changed it so you need the PIC to delete characters now instead of the birthday which makes it far worse if you get hacked. Since the hacker would already have the PIC if he was able to get into your account in the first place, he doesnt need to find out anymore info to delete all your hard work. Birthday's used to be useless as a security tool since it could easily be cracked but nexon recently changed their system so if you try to use a bday cracker, it temporarily blocks your IP address from using the "find ID" option which is what was used for bday cracking.

If it's really the old 4-digit pin that was the problem of being hacked, then this new one should be so much better! Except from what I hear, it seems the hackings involve a lot more then just a pin.. :|

The PIN number had a soft-keyboard system, which meant it had to be mouse-logged and could not just be key-logged. However, to attain the password, the user also had to be key-logged. Now, all you need is a key-logger, because from what I can tell, the PIC is input through use of keyboard. Also, the fact that you log on a web browser makes it incredibly unsafe as you could have innumerable risks, including cross-tab contamination, low protection/encryption, and other disasters like the recent Internet Explorer security glitch (which caused Internet Explorer to even be banned in certain countries to prevent leaks). Also, currently, MapleStory always redirects using Internet Explorer- very inconvenient in accordance to the security glitch (for those who haven't updated) and for those who use other browsers.

iTs no doubt an improvement, but nobody's gettin hacked based off lucky pin guesses. 4 characters is still like, thousands of possible guesses, so GL there. It really isnt gonna make a big diff. Also, im willing to bet a fair number of people are gonna get locked outta their accounts. If you make the new pin upon your first login, what happens to people whose info is known by others, and the hacker gets to the account first and sets the pin? Owner's account = gone.

(no i'm not being sarcastic) And I do hope they didn't remove the birthday pin value x-x because like you said, it'd suck if they did. I know personally maybe 3-4 friends got hacked but were able to start over because their characters still existed, but if they got deleted....a sad day for me and probably lots of others ><

The concept of being key-logged is so stupid, and i kinda doubt a majority of them are keylogging related, rather email/ other info related. I mean, if somone took the time to set up a keylogger why nto steal your social security number or something, of if it was ms related, one to steal your visa number when you charge nx? I just find it hard to believe someone with those computer skills would put it to use to hack a kids game's character. Not saying it doesnt happen, just saying its alot less likely than people seem to think.
