What are some good ideas to prevent students from dropping out?

Finish school and you'll get a better paying job, improving your overall quality of life due to more money to spend on what you want.

Well they obviously know how stupid the decision is, so any talk about giving up their dream job/future won't work. Usually they would only drop out because of depression/personal reasons, so whatever you say won't really change it. edit: I wrote this while the poster above me did, this is pretty ironic xD

Add a separate course for schools. Instead of teaching potential drop-outs things like algebra and physics you can add classes such as shop classes and specialized classes for plumbing, electricians etc.. This way the potential drop-outs can do something productive other than nothing at all. (This post isn't very well thought out as of now but I hope you get the general idea)

In my school, they offer computer engineering, woodworking, plumbing, automechanics, more and Co-op.

The problem remains with the teachers, sad to say. The students are there for normally 7 hours of the day, and if the teachers are cool then sure, the students will not want to drop out, but if the teachers are horrible(like my english teacher who demotivates you and makes her seem like the Queen of England over us slaves) then the students will have more reason to drop the course.

[/quote] I'm an elitist when it comes to education, so when people drop out and whatnot I feel bad for them because I assume that the best college for them after high school is a community college or maybe even a low university, but they won't get that great of a degree. Then again, same goes for some who stay in school but don't try that hard.
