Asking someone to be your valentine?

Well, my friends (who are girls) kept saying how awesome it would be if someone asked them to be their valentine. Does this really apply? I just wanted some other opinions. Also, is this different from asking someone out?

Yeah it would be awesome and special because V-day only comes once per year. To be asked by someone to be his valentine would usually make a girl squirm, especially if she likes the guy. It's such a romantic day, and if a seriously committed relationship evolves from being asked to be the valentine of another person, it's usually a day to remember. I'm not sure there's much of a difference between asking to be someone's valentine and asking someone on a date. A guy asks a girl out on a date because he might be interested in her. A guy asks a girl to be his valentine because he might be interested in her or the two share a deep bond such as friendship and he may want to strengthen that bond.
