Hi there fellow basilers! I come to you today, to ask you all a common question... Why are so many people Ashamed of playing Maplestory? Let me ask you something, and there have been alot of threads about this; How many of Your friends Irl know you play MapleStory? What is it that makes us so embaressed to admit we play this game? After all, its incredibly fun, very team based and generates entertainment for hours. There is a common misconception that playing online games is Not cool, or makes you a geek...Is this true? No If everybody who played online games, or just games in general was a geek, that would make about 95% of Children / teenagers geeks. Lol? K maybe we are Who cares? But here's the difference, if you own an Xbox 360, or a PS3 or even the good old Wii, you would probably brag about it to your friends or colleagues if you work. You brag because the console is worth something and means a great amount of fun at home. Yet, Maple didn't cost you a cent (unless you bought NX) and you wouldn't mention it to your siblings, let alone your friends....Imagine if they knew? Would they mock me? Probably not, because everybody does it. What are the reasons we are ashamed of playing? Is it because of the Anime style graphics? The nature of other players, whether young or old? The easy going gaming experience? Lack of serious gore? Or are you afraid to admit you got addicted? xD Have a think about it Basil, heres me expecting most people to say it's a mixture of all 5 there and perhaps more, But Really, should we be so scared to admit we play a perfectly fun, demanding, resourceful, team building, friend making, financially appealing and very much so... Educating game? Theres my thoughts, anybody? -Edit- What do you guys think about in-game Maple Love and the adverse effects it has? Have you ever experienced it and/or met somebody irl after being introduced on Maple?

basically the looks of the game and the endless hours wasted cus you have no life out side your room Edit: and theres a diffrence between xbox and ps3 those actually have many of games to choose from and they are all cool and ur able to play online with certain games and if u brag about it to you friends/co workers ur not saying "o today ima try to lvl grind from 110 to 113 and waste like 8 hours of my life" when you have a console its more like "hey you got a ps3 and CoD 4 MW2? if so wanna give me ur gamertag and we can play online"

Only a few of my friends know that i play. I dont play that much anymore, but yes i use to be addicted to this game.

It's because people are afraid to admit what they like to do. I told my friends at school that I play, and they mock me. I don't honestly care though.

My parents think its a kids game when I tried to explain to them that many of the people are teens. + I don't really tell people because nx cards have ludi and ludi looks like a kids place so...

I'm not ashamed o.o Just take a look at the maple story keychain on my backpack. I meet alot of new people like that. They say "Is that Maple Story? I used to play blah blah blah" Then we r friends :P

Interesting. Most people know that I play, if they ask what I do with my time, or what I do when I'm home I tell them I play MS and I think its fun. I'd really like to see some of these responses ^^

Despite common thinking of it being higher, it is low due to the target audience. There are more low levels then you think.

All of my friends know I play, and theyre all like 'Why play maplestory, it's lame, go play CoD or something' 'Maplestory isnt even a real game' Their reasons? lack of gore and action. My buddies only like games that involve blood, granades and shooting. I'm the only one that thinks that that's not fun. But hey, we both can live with it.

[/quote] Do you think if Nexon advertised the game to a More matured audience, it would make you feel more comfortable buying NX in public / inviting your friends to join you? I also would say yes, the population of maple can be very immature, and it can be a right pain at times, but when you've been playing for so long, you get used to it don't you? However when your brand new friend comes to join and sees some weirdo dressed as a girl offering *particular services* lets call them a HeneHo, that would scare them yeah.

I'm embarrassed that I'm higher level than all of my friends who tried the game. When they play their first character and it takes a week to get to level 10, they think that 120+ is impossible unless you play 24/7.

ppl think its childish and a waste of time. like.. i once heard some random guy say he was 17 years old, and this kid said "wow wtf 17 years old and u still play maple, get a life and friends nub" maybe kids wanna try to seem "mature" and dont tell their friends because of that
