I personally think High school isn't doing me any good. It's not that I hate learning; it's that I hate learning in school. I hate having to wake up every morning to go to a dimly lit building full of obnoxious teenagers, and then having to get through 8-10 periods of sitting in a seat pretending to listen to a rambling teacher. Some subjects are actually interesting such as English, and History while others are completely useless to me since I can't picture myself being a mathematician or a scientist. Even the interesting classes are boring, because the environment I'm in is dreadful. I'm forced to sit in my seat and work for an entire period when all I really want to do is go back home, and sleep. I sometimes find myself fascinated by historical events outside of school, and I actually take the time to research them, but when I learn about the same historical events in school all I'm thinking of is how many minutes are left in the period. I understand school is useful to some people who want jobs that require an education such as doctor, lawyer, or engineer, but I want to be a film director. I'm more of the creative type, and I can't stand solving math or science problems, because I know I won't ever be using them in the future. This is why school is useful to some, and wasteful to others. I think middle school/high school should be optional, and only elementary school should be mandatory, because it teaches basic skills. I'd be a lot more relaxed, and happy if I didn't have to go to school, and I'd probably be even smarter too. Adolescence is already a time of physical/mental change, and high school just makes everything more difficult.

The male mind is not fully matured until 25, or so I've heard. If your mind isn't mature yet how can you be expected to make the decisions that help or hurt you later in life. i guess they just assume that school will benefit everyone. If you are a creative type, you'll still need a solid basis of knowledge to draw on to create ideas.

Maths is fun. I agree with you, though. First 10 years of school, I learnt nothing. Now that I'm in my 11th year, I'm starting to see a nice incline in information.

You only feel that school is useless because nobody cares about the arts in the current education system. It's always LOLSCIENCESCIENCESCIENCEMATHSCIENCE, and it would be completely unheard of for an arts class to be mandatory.

Adolescence is already a time of physical/mental change, and high school just makes everything more difficult. [/quote] Being a film director would require both math and science, with math at least being at Junior level and the basic understandings of Physics. High school teaches basic skills that are needed in most, if not all jobs. history is there to keep us informed, but everything else is normally needed to get a job and be effective in it. High school also teaches perseverance, and other life skills that you need to be successful in a working society. There is no easy way, just suck it up and move on. Any job above McDonalds needs at least some high school education. And without teaching our children, how would the human race ever expand? Because I don't know about you, but I know that every kid in my class would ditch school if they could, which means my entire city would drop behind in about 10 years. If that happened everywhere.... I shudder to think of the ramifications. EDIT: As a side note, film directing and creation is frigging hard . you have no idea how much effort goes into one scene until you try to make something just as good. Hours of planning, creation and practicing... Dx |

High School has helped me expand on everything Elementary School taught me. Sure, you know about numbers, multiplication, evolution, tectonic plates, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, etc. but can you put all of these ideas in more eloquent terms? Can you begin to apply all of these fields into your daily life? That's college thinking. High School is somewhere in between, and expands on the complexity of your knowledge. To say that High School is a waste, and that you can just jump into a college environment seems pretty ignorant to me.
