My parents got a letter from the government talking about me needing to pay taxes. I am currently in college and broke as hell with no income. So do i have to pay taxes?

you pay taxes after you reach a certain level of annual income. So that can happen at any age, as long as you have some form of income.

No you don't. Only pay tax if you have income and that income reaching a certain level. (At least in Australia it's like that :L)

Well in Australia, I'm pretty sure you have to pay taxes if you earn above 5 grand a year, but even then, there's a limit where they can tax you and when you can just file to get it back. E.g. Earning under 30 grand a year allows you to file a tax rebate, allowing you to get what you paid in taxes back. It's just an example, don't know what the true amount is.

Yea well i guess paying taxes and filing is almost the same thing? But if you pretty much earn 0 income, you dont have to file anything?

In Australia you have to pay tax if you earn over $6000(AUS).

If you are making apporx. less than 6000$ (USD) and not receiving any taxable income, than no. But frankly, you are asking about this in a forum where the average user is less than 14 years of age.
