Hey, as title says, I need grade 9 science help. All help is appreciated. So what I would like to ask is, I'm learning efficiency, in electricity unit. It says to calculate efficiency, you need to divide Useful Output Energy by Total input energy times 100. What I would like to know is, how can we tell which one is useful output energy and total input? In a question like. Calculate the efficiency of a hair dryer which takes in 3000J of energy per second and transfers 600J Jas useful heart energy. Would I subtract 3000 by 600 and use that as Useful Output? Thank you.

the useful output is the heat energy...

(3000)/(600) x (3000) = 1800000 x 3000 = 3984098409843984984984984984

KhaniMiasmaBasil consists of mostly Asians. Most Asians are not scientists; they are mathematicians. Umm, anyway, go with what simplysweet said. I don't know lol.

no, dont listen to what simplysweet said. effienciency is output over inpuit. therefore since u know the hairdryer has 3000 J energy put into it, and the hairdryer only uses 600 J of the 3000J. Its 600J/3000J = 0.2 x 100% = 20%. Therefore the hairdryer is 20% effiencient. { input E = 3000J, output E = 600J } If you want it to make it more clear, then we can rephrase the answer as the hairdryer only uses 20% of the 3000J it is supplied with. Or to make it more accurate, the hairdryer is 20% effiencent every second. Proof ( 3000J x 20% = 600J )

Just think of input/output as purity: The more pure a substance is, the higher the purity percentage. Remember that multiplying that by 100% is to find the % efficiency.
