Overuse of the term troll

A.F.T.C.O.T.M.O.T.T.T Service announcement It has recently come to the attention of the Association For The Correction Of The Misuse Of The Term "Troll" , that people are misusing the term "troll" a great deal on Basilmarket; we are here to stop it. Troll: someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. (courtesy of Wikipedia) We have seen many posts using the term troll in the wrong context, such as: "I think I smell a troll" or "Troll get back under your bridge". The use of troll in this case is wrong. To troll is a fishing term when a fisherman lets his lure out into the water, letting it drag behind him as he sails along. In doing this the fisherman hopes that a fish will bite it as he goes by. Trolling is not referring to the mythological creature. An internet troll is one who writes something hoping that someone will "bite his line" or make an emotional comment "hooking" them into the conversation. We at the A.F.T.C.O.T.M.O.T.T.T find it appalling that people misuse the term "troll" Therefore in order to stop this, anytime you post a comment regarding a troll, use a term like: "I think someone is looking for a bite", not "get back under your bridge troll". Also please be sure to correct anyone that misuses "troll". To make this more official we would like for Mr. Basil to add this to rule number 2 in the rules of basil market: "when calling someone a troll, make sure you correctly refer to the fishing term, not the mythological creature." In conclusion anyone that would like to join us in our fight please leave your name and it will be added to our list. Lol, this is funny. Saying something like "I smell a troll" doesn't mean it's referring to a mythical creature. You could use that to say that you think someone is being an internet troll. Smell would translate to detect/sense and troll would translate to internet troll and not a mythical creature. Besides that, you're missing the point. If you get rid of the trolls, then there wouldn't be problems with calling people trolls. The rule should be "don't be a troll" instead of "don't misuse the term troll". Haha, you're so funny.
