http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp3NRq6XTvo i was lookig through this guys vids for maple vids for my playlist and i saw this and its hilarious, he talks to some srsly crazy people in costume hes got other ones too that i havent watched but this is good someone told me i could make my own convention, i live in argentina and none are around here, how would i be able to make 1, i dont know how to do that?

[/quote] First of all, not all anime fans are cosplayers, and not all cosplayers are anime fans. Second of all, for some people (me included), it's fun being with other people who are doing it, it's nice to get feedback on your costume, and it can be quite interesting to see how many costumes you recognise. As for the embarassment factor, you could equally ask why anyone drinks heavily when a lot of drunk people make complete and utter idiots of themselves, why people bother with karaoke or talent shows when at least half of them are unimpressive at best, etc.

Because at least you have a legitimate excuse for acting like an idiot. What excuse do cosplayers have besides "I really really really like Final Fantasy."

[/quote] Since when is getting drunk a legitmate excuse for ANYTHING? Since when was making a fool of yourself while drunk acceptable? People who drink heavily are usually criticised for drinking heavily, not just for their actions while drunk. Heck, cause a road accident while drunk and you've committed at least 2 offenses, so being drunk is anything but an excuse in some cirumstances. At least cosplayers (the same goes for people who are into karaoke and people who enter talent contests) don't actually cause problems for people (appart from the occasional accident involving tripping over/bumping into parts of costumes). Even if they make idiots of themselves in the name of fun, as long as they can handle the embarassment, there's no harm caused. Cosplayers also KNOW that they will look stupid to many people, and decide that looking stupid is worth the trade-off for having fun. People who get drunk may very well regret what they have done (if they even remember). The worst that happens with cosplaying is making an idiot of yourself (unless your replica *name of weapon here* is too realistic for the police); far, FAR worse can happen to those who get drunk. [/quote] They have fun doing it, without it causing issues for other people (thinking someone looks stupid is at their expense, not yours). What excuse does anyone have for drinking too much? I brought up the example of drinking as a FAR worse example of making an idiot of yourself; how can anyone genuinely think cosplaying is worse, or any less excuseable than what some people do while drunk? How can anyone genuinely think that not knowing or totally ignoring your own limits is a better excuse for something that can have serious consequences than having fun is for cosplaying? I simply cannot believe I am in a position to quote something so utterly rediculous. And you still haven't explained why cosplaying is any less acceptable than karaoke or entering a talent show. Do people need an excuse to do either of those? In fact, I don't see people asking how anyone could act in a play, which involves, among other things, dressing up as a character in front of the public.
