the statement if you fail your country fails make perfect sense in this increasingly global economy. Not only is the government cutting back on education but we as a people seem to be valuing it less. Meanwhile in India and China and such they're working hard to educate their youth so eventually they will outproduce us because we don't put enough emphasize on education. (Sick of seeing his tuition rise).

I don't think anyone in our school watched it, or at least not the 7-12 graders (our school is k-12 with 500 kids). A lot of the kids actually wanted to watch it, but the teachers already had "plans" for the day.

I guess they were trying to scare people. Politics... I'm glad he gave a speech to the kids. I bet it inspired a lot of them; I would've thought it was awesome if a president actually addressed me when I was a little 3rd grader.

Probably wasn't enjoying it cause I was missing 20 minutes of PE >.>

The reason it was so controversial was because the WH released a curriculum supplement that had the following prompt: "How can you help your president?" However, they have now retracted that.
