someone : Christianity is obviously fake.. i'm not sure how people believe it. Because we could just as easily say it's obviously real. however, some of us choose to prove it's reality anyway. We know that the bible is accurate because of a few different points One is it's historical accuracy. All through the 19th and 20th century people would claim that certain parts of the bible's account of history was pure legend, and never actually happened. For instance, some thought that King David was a mythological character instead of a real king. I forget when exactly it happened, but archeologists eventually dug up a record (it was a tablet or pole or something) of King David from a third party- I think it was Assyria but I don't remember, I'll look it up for you. Another is scientific accuracy. Granted, the Bible is not a scientific textbook, but it is accurate when it touches on scientific matters. For instance, the bible said that "the earth hangs on nothing", when the popular belief of the pagan nations surrounding Israel was that the earth was supported by some kind of god, or that mythical creatures supported it. Granted, this alone could just be blind luck on the Israelites' part for having a non-retarded theory behind things. However, a few particularly remarkable passages are found at Job 37:27, Ecclesiastes 1:7, and Isiah 55:10, which refer to the water cycle, a process which modern science didn't understand until the 16th century. While this too could just be blind coincidence, along with the other evidence, it really helps support the idea of the bible being authored (read: dictated, like a businessman would dictate a letter for a secretary to write. The secretary being the men, the businessman being God, the bible was physically written by men, but the thoughts and ideas in the bible are from God, so it is God's word, not man's) by a being who, having created the universe, would have the best possible knowledge of the inter workings of the universe. Yet another is the honesty exhibited by the writers. While secular historians often cover up the mistakes made by their nation (history is written by the victors, after all), the bible writers were not hesitant to write their own mistakes, if that's what happened. For example, read the book of Jonah, which was written by Jonah himself, and chronicles the results of his own cowardice. OR read up on what the bible says of King David. It doesn't just mention that King David had adulterous relations with a woman, and then had her husband killed t cover for himself, but it devotes entire chapters to the event in separate books (much of the book of psalms is David's own pleading for God's mercy, partly due to the adultery and murder he committed). This supports the idea that the bible was inspired by a third party, if you have reason to believe that it was. So far you may find that these reasons really only lend support to the idea of the bible being God's word, but don't really suggest the idea of

Mindstormer : Firstly, there's a lot of trash out there, no wonder you came to such a conclusion, what did you expect? Everything on the internet to be reliable? Probably 99/100 Bible prophecy theories on the internet are exactly that: Theories. I would probably fully agree that such a guide is nothing less than crazy and ambiguous as I've seen some of those myself. They just tell you what things represent because they sort of sound similar and half-match here and there. That is NOT prophecy, it's a gross misrepresentation and if that's what you're judging, then you're TOTALLY right about it being ambiguous regardless of your level of education. Secondly, there's no such thing as "David 2", the book is called Daniel. It would help to know the difference if you wish to debate as if you know much about it. can you explain deuteronomy 13 6-10 to me please, i want a religious persons opinion.

NXJon : can you explain deuteronomy 13 6-10 to me please, i want a religious persons opinion. Having just come out of Egypt. God had shown powerfully that He was the single true, existent God through numerous miracles. However, due to the nature of the people having just come out of paganism where "negative" (to censor it) practices took place, provision had to be made to prevent the people from turning back to the false customs that they had been accustomed to during their captivity along with the pagan Egyptian practices that would have gone with it. The existence of one true God alone at the time would not have been in question considering the circumstances, the plagues He had caused in Egypt, each respectively directly aimed against a pagan god proved this to the people. Therefore, if an individual chose to reject the God who was specifically leading and protecting them as a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21) then they would have to be eliminated from the camp, lest sin be maintained within the camp and cause God to depart from all of them, along with His protection and power against the formidable nations surrounding them. For this reason, among others, many of the possible sins held high penalties. You might find interest in reading the entire story sometime from Egypt to Canaan in order to get some additional perspective into the sort of situation they were in as the record progresses. Anyway, I'm off for the night now. Later.

MaikuX3 : Great, now answer my questions Jehovah! 1. Why do "YOU PEOPLE" knock on my family's door on our holidays disrespecting my entire family's belief 2. Why do you let children with diseases like lukemia die instead of giving them blood transfusions. I'm sorry but out of all the religious branches, Jehovahs are the worst. Your branch is even worse than the Westboro Baptist church. I will galdly call you and any Jehovah out on any of your illogical thoughts! ok, here we go: 1.We believe it is necessary to preach from door to door. Believe it or not, hundreds of thousands of bible studies are conducted with people who we found at the door who actually were looking for a decent, non hypocritical religion. Many many people are actually grateful that we offer our religion to them, and we are glad that they are saved because of it. That said, I personally try to make it a point not to bother people when I do go to their door, because after all I am doing this on their time. That's why I (and any courteous Witness) try not to preach on holidays, even if we ourselves do not celebrate them. However, I cannot speak for the Witnesses in your area, and I'm sorry if they have disrupted you. Understand that our preaching is not meant to annoy people, but is meant to offer our religion to people who want it, and there are still many, many people who want it. 2. This is a very controversial principle of ours. Many people equate our not taking blood transfusions as our refusing any medical treatment at all. That is simply not the case. Because we don't accept blood, we have published numerous articles and journals which address ways to find out about non blood treatments. We will accept chemotherapy, interferon therapy, radiation therapy, and surgery as long as blood is not given. We will take fractions of the parts of blood (for example we will take clotting factors taken from plasma) but we will not take whole blood or any of the four main blood parts (platelets, red blood cells, white blood cells, and plasma). Our principle against the use of blood is based in the bible. God required Israelites to pour out the blood of animals which were to be eaten, because that blood represented the life of the animal. Blood of the sacrificed animal was used in sacrificial ceremonies, where it was poured out on and around the alter, in sacrifice to God, because He views the blood as sacred. In the new testament were are told to abstain from blood. Our refusal of blood has brought many advances in the field of bloodless surgery and bloodless treatment. It has helped to make surgeons more aware of their actions, and less sloppy, because they can't replace blood lost (unless the blood being lost is recovered and put back in, since that is our own blood it is acceptable). Since doctors have been using bloodless treatment, they have found it to be healthier, with less chance of infection. As a result, many doctors have taken to using bloodless treatment on non witnesses as m

Okawari : Genesis is wrong. Life can start from non-life. When monomers diffuse into fatty acid vesicles, they spontaneously polymerize and copy any template. When these vesicles meet underwater heat sources (hot spots, etc.) they separates strands, and this increases membrane permeability to monomers. The polymer backbones attract ions increasing osmotic pressure on the membrane and drives growth at the expense of surrounding vesicles. Water will flow across a membrane to try to equalize the ion concentration. If there is a lot of polymer in a vesicle it will be surrounded by many ions, thus causing water to flow into the vesicle, increasing the internal pressure and stretching the membrane. Fatty acids are in equilibrium between the vesicle and solution. If 2 vesicles are near one another they will gradually swap fatty acids. If one membrane is under tension, the fatty acid "on rate" will be greater than the "off rate" (move to a lower energy state by relaxing the pressure). It will suck up fatty acids from solution. The other vesicle will still give them off, but they will disappear (sucked up by neighbor) and not return. Therefore, the vesicle with high internal pressure will grow and the neighbor will shrink. Eventually the vesicles grow into tubular structures which get divided by mechanical forces. These "daughter" vesicles inherit polymers from the parent, then this cycle repeats. As of now the monomers are in random patterns so they don't contain any information. Also, consciousness and logic is from the brain. Bacteria posses both the abilities to make decisions and learn. E.coli needs to make a decision when it is in an environment where there is no lactose around, E.coli should not waste energy making lactose metabolizing enzymes. The way E.coli decides is through a single protein called the lactose repressor (lactR). When no lactose is around, the LactR is free to bind a stretch of DNA called the Lact operator, thereby blocking RNA polymerase from binding. But, when lactose is around, the lactose binds onto the LactR changing it's shape which frees the Lact Operator, thus allowing the polymerase to transcribe. An example of learning would be natural selection. Our brains are just this at a magnified level. You can bend the words of the Bible to make it look like it can predict the future, but you can't deny science. A. Your a (insult claim you to have a lower intelligence) because those stories are not supposed to be taken literally. B. Science is not always right you know, how did matter in the universe come about? When science says that matter cannot be destroyed or created. Was the matter just there, that would be like God, which you all claim to be so false, and cannot happen.

In fact, do you know what science is based on? denying science. All scientific progress comes form someone who denies the current theory. Now I'll level with you, I am by no means a scientist, and I don't really know just exactly the process you're talking about in the first paragraph, but I get the gist of it. And unless this process has been directly observed in an uncontaminated environment, it's really just a theory as to how life started. About the lactose repressor, that is the ability of an organism to adapt. And God gave organisms the abilty to adapt. However, that E. Coli bacterium

Taztingo : Is the bible the text of God or man? Well, think of it as the relationship between a secretary and a businessman. The businessman will dictate a letter, and the secretary will write/type it. Even though the secretary physically wrote the letter, the thoughts and ideas in it are the businessman's. Similarly, through holy spirit (the bible isn't any more specific than to say it was inspired) God directed the men who physically penned the bible to write His thoughts. Even though it was physically written by man, the ideas are God's.

Meh its the bible. Never touched it nor will i even touch it. If anything I'll try to prevent my kids from touching it or atleast being sucked into religion. I'm an atheist and I just believe screw god and evolution. Just continue with our lives.

This thread is a wall of text. By the way Humans can't just pop into existent. And even if they were they would have to start as a child, but 546346846 years ago a humanoid infant wouldn't survive alone. So the only logical way is evolution from whatever. Though I don't belive in the Bible, I do believe there are other beings out there. Any person can just make up a bible and start preaching about how their religion is best.

what do you mean when you say "Job 37:27, Ecclesiastes 1:7, and Isiah 55:10," Are those like parts of the bible? Do they stand for sections and subsections? Just wondering

What if this entire bible was just a prank made by some man that called himself "God"? What if he used the bible as a journal to store all his wise tales and moral stories? What if he made random predictions and it somewhat came true? What if the entire world back in Ancient time were to be a part of this great prank? Predictions slowly being manipulated in reality... A prank that would conceal itself in the thoughts of people throughout time and passing generations... =o! haha ignore me, i'm just making up random bogus . ;D
