I just reached level 70 and I'm enjoying playing as a outlaw! But I got two problems and I need answer to them. 1. Should I rise ice splitter or octopus after burst fire? Others say that octopus doesn't help much and others say it does... :S So I'm asking all outlaws and corsairs: Did octopus help you when you sniped newties? How much did it help? Did it help enough so it was good idea to put points in before ice splitter? 2.When did you start sniping newties? What is good level to start sniping newties?

1. I raised octopus, realized that it barely helped, stopped it at 11, and started raising ice splitter. I guess if you aren't really funded, and you take too many hits to kill a newtie, octopus somewhat helps. It took off 1 hit sometimes @ level 11, and I hear it takes off 1 or 2 hits at level 30, so yeah. In my opinion, I enjoyed ice splitter a lot more because if I ever got bored at newties (which was often) I could go to memory monks at Time Temple. About the same EXP as newties, but I enjoyed it a whole lot more. 2. I started at level 81. I think people start when you 12 hit newties (at max.) Any more and the EXP won't be good.

1. Go ice splitter, octopus isn't really that helpful. I went with octopus first and kind of regret it, sometimes it attack and sometimes it doesn't >< plus the damage isn't that good 2. I started sniping at newtie at level 83, using cidars. A good level would be 85

Oh lord, Ice. No contest. You need Ice, at best octopus is very slightly useful in some situations. And it doesn't really help newt sniping because it most likely won't reduce the number of hits it takes to kill a newt. As for a level range, 80+ you can start newt sniping. A lot of people wait until 90 or so to start though.

i was at wind raiders till about 84, then i went to newts (sniping), and from where your gonna be sniping from you dont need to freeze, and octo helps a lot more in sniping. so i would go octo, then at about 95 or 96 go freeze sniping.

ice is awesome to windraider oct helps a bit in newt, i dont know why people say it helps A lot but i never noticed a huge difference. i started sniping newts at lvl 90. 70-90 was all wr.

1: I put into Ice first and started sniping at 80, octo idk i dont really like using octo at newties, i have to press more buttons and it doesnt make that much of a diff on ur exp. 2: i started at 80 but my friend didi at 78o.o depends on ur damage, id say go when u can hit 1k+ on them on each bullet

I maxed ice first, but i don't have the glaze cap so the damage is at most 700-900 so it is quite useless during training (except for freezing). Don't forget that we have Blank Shot though and can stun monsters (only 3 compared to 6 from ice). I'm currently sniping newties with a lvl 20 octo, and i do have to say that I wish it was a higher level. It takes out about one hit, sometimes two if i summon two octos. However, that is newtie sniping and you have no meso income at all because you can't loot without risk of dying. I would say get octo if you plan on doing newtie sniping, or get ice if you plan on doing anything else.

Personally from experiance. Ice is god. Ice is key for newts. Ice saves you a lot of bandages from getting shot by a respawning newt. Also, if your on the mid platform (like you should) invest one point into homing. This lets you attack the newt behind the first one, to get more kills in a shorter amount of time. I.... wouldnt suggest double attacking the mid platform till your ice has at least 2 second freeze. (lv 11) From personal experiance, octo does take a hit or two off the newt so I can kill faster, but you do need ice to avoid many un-nessary deaths.
