OK I know this is probably gonna attract some flames but I don't care really...I just need some advice. I'm usually quiet in real life SORTA...It's not like I'm shy; I just don't have much to say sometimes. :P I'm perfectly fine with friends too, but like on the phone, it's really different. I think talking on the phone is kind of awkward to me. Like you need to constantly have a conversation going or it's not gonna be enjoyable, whereas in real life you can just go along with your business. So this girl and I talk on the phone rarely (rarely because she can't tell her mom about me and I can't tell my parents about her. LONG STORY SO I'M NOT SHARING), and when we do, I just feel so awkward. And it's not like she's the problem; it's the same way with most of my friends. Maybe it would be better if I wasn't around people when I was on the phone...My sister was across the hall and who knows when my parents will walk upstairs sooooo.... And every day I ask for a good time to call her, but things happen and we often can't talk. I don't know what I'm asking really...does anyone else feel this way though?

I understand you. 100%. I mean, I can carry on a conversation with almost anyone on the phone, except for my ex when we were together. Half the time, we'd be quiet. A fourth of the time, I couldn't understand what he was saying. The last fourth of the time was spent saying, "good night" or "good morning" or "I love you".

DarkWater : Text message each other then. That's all I can really suggest. Or manage to keep a conversation going and when it really starts getting awkward and boring, say "Can I call you back?" Simple as that. Can't text, or I'd have to pay for it. And I don't have a job, plus I don't want to be a real phone addict.

xIdentity : It's like the same thing though, lol? Pretty much, but for some reason seemingly talking to a computer seems really weird to me, while on the phone you have the phone to your ear/mouth and looks, and feels, less awkward.

Speaker phone? :3 And there's a microphone built in my computer...how do I use that with AIM? I'll check the thread tomorrow or later, I gotta go. Peace out basil o-o

It's like $15 a month for unlimited on Verizon and cheaper on some other carriers. Tell your mother that everyone's texting and you'd like to get it added to your plan. You don't need to tell her whom you're texting. ;) Texting does come in handy in other situations too. And talking on the phone shouldn't be forced. If it really is getting awkward, just say that you'll call her back later or that you have to go or something. Don't waste your cell phone minutes sitting on the phone waiting for someone to talk.

With my best friend we can stay on the phone for maybe ten minutes at a time without saying a word to each other, neither of us seems to care at all. It's not awkward when there is no pressure, unfortunately, I DO know what you're talking about, and I wish I knew a way to feel the same way with my other friends on the phone as I do with my closer friends on the other line.

I find myself texting a lot, actually. I go through ~6000 texts per month. Texting is great, but time wasting.

I feel that way all the time when it's phone or Skype... which is why I just randomly start shouting out random things to make the other person on the line confused. Funsize.

Well get used to it. Talk to her on msn/aim then you'll have things in common to say on the phone. Only thing i hate abou the phone is sometimes its hard to hear them and sometimes its hard for them to hear you =/

I don't want them to know about this girl, and I KNOW my mom would love to know all of the conversations I have. Texting is just not an option...
