I'm having this wierd problem both browsers IE and Firefox work like a breeze while maplestory is just unplayable because of some weird lag. Seems like all my internet apps are nto working fast just EI and Firefox. I am on a school's network so maybe they have a program that retards the internet speed for anything others than browsers. Any way to fix this?

Games such as Maplestory use up a lot more bandwidth than a browser.

What kind of lag is it? If the game is choppy, then it's the computer that's slow. If there is a sort of delay, then that's the Internet connection's, or Nexon's serve'rs fault. Also, MapleStory does not take up a lot of bandwidth. It takes up much less bandwidth than a web browser. Each individual web page should be over 1MB, whereas MapleStory just sends out and receives a bunch of tiny packets, which don't really add up to much. Either way, the bandwidth usage is negligible compared to file downloads.

Program that retards internet speeds? Could be delaying Maple's packets coming or something. Use Your Freedom, or try it. And proxifier PE.

If you're on a school network, odds are you're NOT THE ONLY ONE using the Internet. Thus you're SHARING whatever bandwidth they can afford with everyone ELSE who's using it. It's like trying to get a drink at the drinking fountain when everyone flushes the toilets all at once- you only get a trickle. Same with sharing the Internet. No way around it other than sabotaging all the other computers in the school. EDIT- The reason your browsers don't seem to be affected is that they are "bursty" by nature. That means when you load a new web page, there's a burst of network activity as it loads the text and graphics to display that page, but once it loads, network activity pretty much stops. Then it's quiet while you read the page contents, until you click on a different page, then there's another "burst" of activity. The overall "throughput" over time is quite low. And, since other browsers on other computers on the network exhibit the same "burstiness", the odds are your page loads don't coincide with theirs, so everyone's browser seems to be using the network all alone. (The exception to all of this of course is "streaming video", which puts a more constant load on the network, but that's relatively rare. Even the dratted advertising on Basilmarket are short, one-time downloads that only take a brief amount of time to complete.) But- games put a CONSTANT load on the network. While MapleStory has a small network "footprint", it's a CONSTANT stream of data back and forth between the game server and your computer. If you watch the LAN light on your router (if you can see it from your computer), you'll see it CONSTANTLY flickering while you play a game, because the game is ALWAYS sending and receiving game data. A browser on the other hand will show a lot of flickering when you load the page, then nothing until you load a new one. So a game puts a FAR GREATER load on a network than a browser does. And if you've got a bunch of other people using the network, multiply that load times however many people are trying to use the same Internet "pipe".
