i believe reformatting is going into the real maple file (not shortcut) and right clicking, go to properties click the tab saying compatability and then in the drop down box select windows xp service pack 2 (SP2) you are running vista rite?

reformatting is like cleaning out your drive with normal factory settins. resetting all your booting files or your normal (need to have files) to make the computer function properly. mayb you have a corrupt file with starting programs or something idk. basically what you do is go start. and find like system recovery or somethinglike that. i unfortunately dont have that option on my laptop cause i have a Lenovo, and they did a built in recovery button. so if anything goes wrong i just hit that. but yours is probably in your start menu PS. if you have any files that you like a lot or somthing that you cant recover and you want it. i recommend backing it up on a disc or findign a way to copy it somewhere cuase you will have no programs or files that you would have before you reformatted

You could try running it in windows xp. Right click maple-->properties. Then in the compatibility tab check '' Run this program in compatibility mode for'' and choose Windows XP(Service pack 2).
