I have a habit of disagreeing with the skill builds that are posted on here and sure enough, here I go again now that I'm a Corsair. I understand that most builds recommend battleship skills early on and RF much later on. But I'm not entirely convinced. Have any of you done the calculations or gone the route of putting a decent amount of points into RF first? My thinking is that it takes awhile to max any of the battleship skills, so you'll probably find yourself using stinky old Burst Fire. I'm not dying to take on bosses or show off amazing damage, I want to have an easier time of training from 120-140 instead and I imagine that'd be easier if I could rely on Rapid Fire instead of battleship breaking (I know I know, if I'm skilled it won't break... ). Thoughts?

I'm no corsair, merely an outlaw, but from the stats I'd say rapid fire being delayed is for the best. Yeah, you're reliant on a low level battleship for your primary DPS if you max cannon first, but honestly the extra DPS you get during that time outweighs the DPS loss for 90 seconds after. Basically if you fought for an hour straight with a cannon build, added up all the damage you dealt over that time on and off the ship, I'm sure it would be more than RF alone even if it's less consistent. Anyway looking at rapid fire itself, I'm unimpressed really. It takes at least 5 points invested before it even matches burst fire I believe, it eats bullets at a horrible rate, and honestly I think even support octo ends up adding more damage (when paired with burst fire). I mean with support octo you're getting passive DPS on top of burst fires damage, vs RF damage alone. That said I haven't played with corsair moves just yet, so I'm simply theorycrafting here based on the stats.

FroznSolidtoytrucks : gone the route of putting a decent amount of points into RF first No, because people have the brain cells required to not do so. calculations, yes, you want calculations? Here are calculations: [from comprehensive gunslinger guide, except Cannon 30] [Format: (Damage % * # of hits) / Time it takes to cast in seconds = total Damage Per Second] Rapid 30 = 160% / .12 = 1333.333%/sec Cannon 30 = 380% * 4 / .63 = 2412.7%/second Which sounds more reasonable? Not only that, when you take weapon def into account, the difference is even larger. Look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mKnw2pbV2c&feature=PlayList&p=1E8F0D23754339B1&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=62 (youtube) Dishing out 7-10k's with each rapid fire shot [1:25], while doing 16-26k's with each cannon shot [2:56], 87k total with cannon. The Corsair is lv 200, assuming they had enough brain power to get a corsair to lv 200, they should have maxed both Cannon and Rapid Fire. Not only that, but 14x-15x Corsairs have their ship break every 58 minutes. Look at this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jamv4nVHLsI (youtube) He rarely gets hit. Even at Levithian, i don't remember seeing him get it at all.

masamuneeRejang's control's pro. ._. ...Guess it'll take me a bit to be like that since I had to switch my keyboard around.

Rapid Fire is a crap skill that you will never use while training.

FroznSolidHe sums it up well. I can't imagine using a off-ship move w/o jump shotting

RF first is a completely horrid idea. 99% chance you'd quit your Corsair by 130, if you weren't leeching all the time that is

I'm definitely glad I read this. o_O

Oh snap, my video turned up here? masamunee : Rejang's control's pro. ._. ...Guess it'll take me a bit to be like that since I had to switch my keyboard around. Not to brag or anything but I sort of didn't play maple for 6 weeks when I made that video. It was a rushed project and I messed up alot at the Skelegon part. I had an amazing piece of video at the oblivion monsters, but when I tried to put it in my video it said the file became corrupt. So afterwards I needed to get a new Oblivion part as fast as possible. I really didn't do that well in the video aside from the Leviathan part. But after killing well over 100 of those, that was expected huh? Out of all 4th and 3rd job characters I have ever had, Corsair keyboard layout's are the hardest to get right. They have so many skills you will need in different situations... Red is what I don't use, Green is what I use during bossing and normal training (photobucket). ..I only forgot to outline Invisible Shot in red. But now to get on-topic, God knows what version, but in some other version it used to be normal to get Rapid Fire first. kMS I think but don't quote me on that. I'm pretty sure they don't do that anymore though. Here is the thing. Rapid Fire first is going to increase your damage at the Newties alot faster at lower levels compared to Cannon. You also don't have to deal with your Battleship which is also a major plus. Infact i'm willing to bet on it that a Rapid Fire + Air Strike build is going to get you to 13x alot faster compared to the builds we consider staple in maple global. BUT , after you maxed Cannon and know how to work with your Battleship, Rapid Fire will almost instantly become useless. At level 150 I have 1 rapid Fire and I still don't see a point in using it besides for looking all awesome and cool on the internet * . When it's maxed it will without a doubt become stronger and used more often, but I like to jump in almost all situations. You can't jump with Rapid Fire, you can with Burst Fire. This is also another reason why I dare to say Torpedo is never going to replace Flamethrower. Long story short, You can try a Rapid Fire build if you want, but I can't guarantee you it will help you train faster. But keep in mind by the time you max it it's nearly useless because you have better skills who will (or would have) replace(d) it. I personally think the fastest build to level from 120 to 13x is this: 120- 2 Air Strike, 1 Wrath of the Octopi. 121-130 1 Battleship, 1 Torpedo, 30 Air Strike. 131-140 30 Torpedo. Not saying this is a good idea, but this is based on my own personal speculations. I would still go for a normal Cannon first build after getting all 1 point skills. * becauze inturnets is seriouse business

FroznSolidYou can credit me for putting your video here Starwolf . EDIT: just had a look at your keys. Damn man o.o Crazy. You still have all those skills up there? That thing looks like a mess o.o This is mine: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1623/maple0001adr.jpg (imageshack) The T - Recoil + Wings Ins - Fire/Ice Macro Ctrl - Fire/burst Macro I'll prolly put cannon at 'r' and put burst at Ctrl, and put Torp at 'ins'. No idea what i'm going to do with Air Strike/the crapload other skills O.O

FroznSolid : lol, why? Its a good video. The part at Levithian is amazing O.O I messed up at so many parts x_x Besides, I only made it to help basil out. It was a rushed video made in like...3 hours after not playing maple for a few weeks. Perhaps you can't see it because you don't play a 4th job Corsair yet, but i'm sure Efemera will be able to pick out the parts right away. Like for example, I hardly freeze Skelegons during normal training. In my video you can see me freeze just 1 single Skelegon. Or I shot 2 cannon shots at a Skelegon I couldn't even hit. Perhaps i'm overreacting or something, but I personally don't like the way it came out. Of course i'm happy people enjoy watching it.

Haha, that's okay, it's rare to see a video where everything is done perfectly. That's part of the reason I never got around to making one (I was going to do something similar). I kept going meh...I lagged too much in that video and I didn't do this right here and that right there. Probably just going to wait until I'm done with my Blaze Wizard and I have a new computer which I'm getting later this year. You had good control in general, there's just some things that I would have done differently, but only because my Torpedo and Air Strike are maxed (although your Torpedo looks maxed by the damage? eh) You use Cannon a lot at Skeles o_o I usually just start jump-Torpedoing toward new spawn and freezing it before they start attacking. I find that if you're right in a mob's face as you're Torpedoing you can easily get 4-5 mobs in range, so I don't use Cannon except to kill stragglers or random spawn in corners. Also, in the part at Oblivion 3, I would have Air Striked as I walked >>>, so that I had a nice mob to freeze and Torpedo after I climbed up. And I really don't think your Burst Fire + Air Strike training idea at Nightshadows is any good. It's a really crappy layout in general and if/when I do go there I usually just climb around the map using Cannon/Torpedo and Air Strike as I pass by the bottom.
