Hello, I am a 134 Corsair and would like to share my thoughts and opinions about being a Corsair. Please take note that I am still a young Corsair in training and have not yet experienced all aspects of this class. So feel free to oppose any of my opinions. Corsairs--despite having the strongest DPM, may not be the best boss solo'ers. With minimal knock back and pinning skills (not to say that cannot pin a boss :P), I consider Corsairs best as extra support damage ( kind of like the sniper in the back who head-shots everyone from afar). That is because they truly do the best when a boss is pinned or too far to attack the corsair leaving the corsair able to unload cannon to their desire! Otherwise, corsairs have it pretty rough soloing. On top of that, if their ship breaks they have to wait a gruesome 90 seconds that seem forever. Which is why the higher level a corsair is, the more efficient his bossing skills will become. NL's on the other hand can dish out constant dam throughout the whole fight (able to jump +attack / evade + pot at the same time) w/o worries. BM's are similar to corsairs with hurricane except they also do less damage, have longer reach, have the same annoying interruption to hurricane like RF (but not as often since they are farther away) and not have to worry about battleship. Before I turned into a Corsair, I read many guides and participated in numerous discussions on Corsair skills and Bossing Efficiency. But many small details about techniques and methods often don't apply at certain levels and situations. For example people recommend to dismount your battleship to avoid damage. For training, that is an excellent strategy, but during bossing--I found that dismounting your ship for every boss attack actually slows you down more than taking the hits and doing crappy damage for 90 seconds. Still, I see many people recommending to dismount during boss attacks. You should only dismount for the 1/1's. Everyone also says use rapid fire once your ship breaks, but how efficient is rapid fire after shipwreck? What most people don't take in account for is that during Rapid Fire you cannot repot. This is a very significant factor when fighting boss's that can kill you in 2 hits, or have many 1/1's. While a sin or other melee class can maintain an almost continuous atk, corsairs are stuck having to resume their atk often while using rapid fire. Although I m well aware that this does depend largely on what kind of boss your fighting and other factors like "just dont let your ship break", "Find a priest", or whether you are partying / soloing, most boss's will require you to pot often. Rapid fire's atk is also criticized all the time and questioned for its damage during the 90 sec cooldown. Corsairs do have a skill called hypnotize though, that I found was underestimated by many because they see it as a useless skill. This skill was rather interesting) since it can make a normal monster turn on their own creating a somewhat puppet like

That's good that you realize that DPS isn't everything, but we can solo our share of bosses, and we're pretty good at it too. The only bosses that we really have trouble with are the ones at the back of Showa (very few classes can do this well) and Black Crow. We're not really worse at Bigfoot than many other classes, and every other soloable boss in the game is soloable by a Corsair. Rapid Fire isn't slowed down significantly by getting hit. It may seem that way, but you hardly lose any damage. Same with Hurricane. Maxed Rapid Fire will outdamage Burst Fire at bosses. Rapid Fire is not a very important part of a Corsair's arsenal, though. I don't even understand why you're using it at 13x. Your ship is not going to break very often. Corsairs need to be on their ship well over half of the time to match the damage of BMs/NLs, but that's not a problem. You're easily on your ship over 90% of the time at most bosses. When it does break, 90 seconds is not that long to wait out while you spam Burst/Rapid. Burst Fire covers most of what Rapid Fire can do and more, it just does less damage. Hypnotize is not underestimated. Hypnotize sucks. What do you do on a boss that summons? Bullseye it, tank summon damage, and laugh as the bosses attacks do absolutely nothing to you. Corsairs can kill Pianus by sitting on the bombs (although I wouldn't recommend doing this when you actually have % to lose).

ways to solve RF slowdown, MTS for 1.8k for a auto pet potion, MTS for a pet (if you don't have one, or if you have one that died then MTS for a water of life) I don't think people really mean to dismount for EVERY single boss attack as that would be almost every other second, I tank through almost everything except 1/1s and other skills that I know will hit me for above 3k In the beginning my pap solos took me 15-20 minutes, now they take me 8-10 easily I just tank through every hit except bombs and 1/1 RF is actually not that bad for damage as compared to Triple Fire (I'm hitting 4-7ks on RF at level 19) and hitting 6-10ks (or 9ks) each bullet with Triple. I don't have points in Hypno yet so I can't tell you But imo we don't have problems with any bosses, especially mobile bosses since we just pin them from the get go. I just have a problem with BF @.@ I haven't tried Crow yet so no idea with him neither.

i can't help but wonder if in the time we're getting thrashed around with magic attacks, trying to avoid 1/1s, waiting for our ship to go back up, if a NL would catch up to us in terms of DPM, cause really they barely get hit at all and just keep on spammin TT :l but yeah, about RF, it's not really that much of a problem to me. like, the skill is really fast to begin with, so when you're getting hit, it only takes a second to stop RFing, hit the pot key, and just get right back into it without much of a delay

A corsair will only hit zakum because they should be using bullseye.
