Man versus computer virus

So about two weeks ago, my computer was tricked into blue screening, and subsequently infected with a horrible virus. The microsoft code told me to delete the anti virus, so I did. Everything was working fine until two days later when my computer was engulfed by the virus and killed. I thought all hope was lost. I couldnt log on long enough to run an anti virus. I would be able to get on for five minutes, have the desktop spam "Your system is seriously infected" or "Windows needs a new anti virus, viruses are detected". I was about to rebuy a windows xp disc to salvage my pc. However, in a last ditch effort. I found a special boot disc that is saving my pc as we speak. Thanks to the avira anti virus boot disc, my computer is being cleaned without the virus ever stopping me. Hopefully after the cleaning, my computer will be back to normal. Moral of the story: Always keep a boot disc handy, and never uninstall your anti virus :D

WetFish : System restore wouldnt have done anything. The virus infected my memory, so it basically controlled it. I dont download pron anyways, I stream it. So you're saying that it somehow would have survived a system restore, even though your computer would have essentially been sent back in time? I don't understand. Still, how did you get the virus? There are ways to avoid getting one, and they don't require much effort. @angra: who says it was a trojan?

tiganior1 : PROTIP: System Restore. PROTIP: Malwarebytes PROTIP: Use DVDs, not videos. System restore doesnt remove trojans. Malwarebytes was too slow. Im not 18. The anti virus wouldnt have mattered, because by the time I realized what I had did wrong, the computer blue screened and prevented me from scanning. @Above, Avira says its a trojan. System restore wouldnt have effected it. I don't know how I got the virus, but the idea is, keep a boot disc for saftey.

NineCrimes : @angra: who says it was a trojan? Who says it was a virus? I assume this is a trojan, and not a virus, because it sounds like a rogue anti-virus. @ WetFish Do you recall the name of the trojan?

Here's how to be malware/virus free: 1. have an anti-virus that you regularly update and run 2. have a firewall if your router doesn't have one built in...have both if you really want to 3. have a malware scanner that you regulary update and run 4. use mozilla firefox with something that blocks scripts and thus cross-scripting (I say firefox because I don't know if opera or safari or google chrome, etc have features like that) 5. don't download and run .exe files you don't know 6. avoid sketchy websites 7. avoid sketchy downloads period

I dont know the name of the virus, but it was just added into microsofts database they day after I got hit. Apparently it was a trojan (dont know the name) that infected my memory.

Theres an add on this site that forces you to go on there page looking like the "My Computer" window and saying you got viruses and all this stuff and to download there software. It's annoying o.O Also scan every file you download that your not sure of, it can save you tiem and effort in the furture. Also my computer is lame...well the company that is or there just lazy... They sold me the computer all pre-installed right from the box..only cheap thing is that they don't give you a new installation/boot disk incase a virus comes along and goes trigger happy on your computer. So if that ever happens im forced to pay the 6$ + shiping and handling and wait like 6 weeks for a cd because there to lazy to put one in the box. P.S - Funny enough as I clicked submit I got that ad that takes you to the "my computer" screen lol....and its a 100% fact my computer is secure since i virus scan my entire system every 2-3 days and i get updates daily for it.
