ThisGuy : I know people don't leave only because of ads, but if their annoying enough, it could be a factor. For example, I never go to MSN anymore because of the ads they have on the side of the site are always animated. It may be a factor, but it is a minor one. It's like a bug buzzing around your head. Annoying? Yes, but you can live with it. School, on the other hand, is a major factor, and you cannot say the two have the same weight.

I think that everyone understands that you're making good points and that school is the reasoning for most people leaving, however, that's really not helpful because of its irrelevancy here or for the site. There is more to maintaining a site than making sure the users continue to use the site; from an economical standpoint, it is important, but it is just as important to maintain morale. A good way to keep up the site's image would be to remove negative items from the site, such as these ads; this is the problem, not users leaving because of it.

I'm fairly confident that MrBasil will agree with me that the complaints about the advertisements far outweigh their usefulness as a necessary feature for income. The fact that other users have left for worse reasons doesn't seem to coincide with any of your reason to be debating this; there's no way to prove that no one will leave because of the changes, but there is proof that people are upset by them. Case in point: This thread and its responses.

Don't know if you've realized it yet, but the whole point that these users and others are making is that they simply do not care about the revenue mrbasil is making from the advertisements; the ads are too invasive for the site to be at a bearable level at which a regular user can use it. Also, I would not be surprised if newer users are simply turned off to the site entirely because of it. The users deserve the right to browse basilmarket without this incredibly obnoxious and intrusive ad. I really see no reason to disagree. o-o e: Judging from your responses, it seems you're just disagreeing with the other posters simply because they said a common-fact statement that you thought needed proof. There was really no need to argue with them, and I'd have to say that there is little reason to think you'd give me anything better. I'm just going to report the ad and wait until mrbasil inevitably removes it. @Below: I don't see any fighting. o_o; Either way, might as well just have mrbasil resolve the issue.

Clearly, basilers find the ads annoying. But they haven't left because of that. People have instead decided to block ads, and in doing so are affecting the amount of money generated in the same way leaving would. This all started with mrbasil noticing a decrease in revenue and an increase in the popularity of ad blockers. It was then he decided to go crazy with ads. I think it was his form of punishment or something and that obviously wasn't the thing to do. It has backfired and now more people use ad blockers, more people are complaining, and he is forced to add more advertisements to make up for it.
