Redux here again. Today, I would like to inform you about Satanism. Introduction When it comes to Satanism, I've heard it all. Ritual sacrifices, Illuminati connections, subliminal advertising, even mind control. Of course, these are all very extreme accusations. Until a short while ago, I didn't think any of my fellow basilers would believe something so heinous. In this thread, I seek to debunk all false information and fallacies about Satanism. Veteran basilers, if you have the lurking feeling that this has been reposted, that is correct. Enjoy the learning experience. Disclaimer I don't expect everyone to approve of Satanism, even after reading this. If you have any unfavorable comments, by all means, write a personal message. But write it with composure in mind; I may quote it in this thread to make a point. Before posting -- no matter what that post may be, I only request that you read the information under the header, "The Meaning of Satanism." Also, if you have any suggestions for information I ought to include in the future, or submissions for the Frequently Asked Questions section, please ask them here. Thank you. Also, to those wondering, I am both a LaVeyan Satanist and a Christian. Let's begin, shall we? Right?" The Meaning of Satanism It's a logical assumption to make, after hearing the name. In reality, though, Satanists do nothing of the sort. To put it simply, Satanism is just a realistic view of society, and of religion. Today, I see a too people who are only religious when it benefits them. For example, a class mate of mine uses Christianity to tell people how they should live their lives. I overhear prayers at church, many of them for material belongings and money. Satanists recognize that a lot of people, dare I say the majority of religious people are simply in it for themselves. I've met a lot of people looking for a relationship with their deity of choice, and I think that's great. But I've met even more people lying through their teeth thinking they're going to be rewarded for it. If that's the case, one must wonder: why worship a god at all if you're just in it for yourself? Satanists ask the same question. Anton LaVey explains: "My brand of Satanism is the ultimate conscious alternative to herd mentality and institutionalized thought. It is a studied and contrived set of principles and exercises designed to liberate individuals from a contagion of mindlessness that destroys innovation. I have termed my thought "Satanism" because it is most stimulating under that name. Self-discipline and motivation are effecte

Guys, PLEASE do not turn this into a religion debate thread. Actually read the post please, it's very informative, and that coming from a Roman Catholic/Christian, I guess means a lot, considering the stereotype of us being close minded ass hats ._.

FrozenInSilver : >_> Did you read the damn thread? @above This is how I see being agnostic: UUUUUMMMMMMM UUUUMMM DURP I CANT DECIDE, I'm gonna not be a conformist and not be a christian. Agnostic comes from the Greek word agnostos. Agnostos means ignorant. So when people call themselves agnostics they are calling themselves ignoramuses.

Fireaznboy : "I, as well as many Satanists don't consider Satanism a religion." That made me think you weren't a satanist :| By that logic, neither is LaVey. I don't consider it a religion, because I don't look to some vague, higher meaning for purpose and answers. Within Satanism, everything I need to know is relatively near, and entirely comprehensive.

Actually read the post please, it's very informative, and that coming from a Roman Catholic/Christian, I guess means a lot, considering the stereotype of us being close minded ass hats ._. Our focus should only be on the Bible. Anything against the Word of God should be set aside. So in a sense, we are close-minded. The only reason that we're stereotyped as "close-minded" is because we can be ignorant of what people are saying. We should listen to what people have to say and then help guide them in the right direction. EDIT: Well us Christians. Not to confuse any Satanists-in-the-making, this was meant for the Christian population on basil.

You can't pick and choose what u like and dislike out of the bible. By doing so u have in a way "created your own rules" to a religion that suites ur needs best. This philosophy talks against stupidity and those who get in your way as if other people r not as important this making yourself a "god"
