Do humans actually have free will or are their actions already determined by a force other than yourself? Are you actually choosing what you do, or is the choice a set response? Do we only say we have free will so that we can give ourselves the illusion of meaning and control, or is our 'free will' legitimate? Just an interesting discussion we had in school today, and I wondered what basil had to say. Keep in mind, this isn't about pre-determinded destinies, but about whether ornot humans actually have free will. Go.

There's free will and there's a superior authority controlling it.

you could argue both and win. My opinion its a choices of a few set responses coming from past, and common seance, and whats presented in front of you

We all have free will inside our mind..unless you're brain washed :T But I guess in terms of action, we're bound to morals and laws and such that prevents our free will..

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I disagree. Think about it, since the time you were born, society, friends and family (etc) has influenced you, told you what is right and what is wrong. So think about it like this, our brain is made out of two tubes (which sorts out information). One leads to "safe/good," the other "harmful/bad;" from the instant our brain started information coherently, we lose our freewill. Parents say guns are dangerous, therefore, we register in our minds that guns equal a bad thing. It is really hard to explain, sort of like those times where you know it in your brain, but can't form it into sentences.

I don't think we do, everything you do is based on the type of stimulus provided and the reaction to the stimulus comes from experiences and your up bringing. Basically everything you do is based around your past experiences and things you have learned. Free will is only an illusion of the mind, but the illusion of free will is pretty much there because people think everything is just of a subjective view.

Brig Brother's watching us all. He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been "bad" or "good" so be good for your own sake. So no, we do not have completely free will, but if we can find the blind spots in the system, you have all the free will you want.
