Crossbows block faces and are less conventional/popular weaponry in general, speed over (slow) power, flashiness of Bomb over Iron Arrow/Hurricane over Snipe & Pierce. Just some guesses. I'm thinking the first point actually carries a lot of weight. Then being less popular leads to the assumption the class sucks, (Paladins further this premise).

My Sniper has nx to cover his crossbow so it doesnt cover his face, why is covering the face that bad, i think its cool, the nx surprisingly got my partied more

Ironically, when I picked up a bow to screw around with, I noticed they kind of cover your face when firing, which I find equally, if not more, irritating. (though I will also mention we get a disappointingly small collection of items to mask our xbows compared to other classes)
