100% CPU Usage

Nvm, fixed :P I was at my cousin's house 2 days ago and I changed my battery life setting as 'low performance' forgot to change it back >.< now I got it, thanks for everyone who tried to help~

CPU can be affected by a bunch of different factors, so providing a bit of information on your actual PC would help, although Basil isn't the ideal place to be looking for it. Shot in the dark here, but try bringing up task manager and search the process tab for anything suspicious. You may of been infected with spyware, or something similar x.x;

if you run a download programm for like a movie or something shut that down, and look in task manager under process for some stuff that are not needed and shut that down. a other thing is buy a new laptop,,,

OxStarxO : What would happen if you mess with the priority levels of MS? o.o Not much, just don't try setting it to realtime. The performance gain isn't really noticeable, at least to me o_o

Specs on your computer? (start>Run>type in "dxdiag" say what it says for processor, memory, then go to the display tab and see what it says for name) Also, what processes are using CPU. Go Ctrl+Alt+Del then go to the processes tab and click the CPU column and see what has the highest %'s.

The most common thing would be you're computer has alot of unnecessary processes that are running right now.

We need the specs of your computer and confirmations of virus scans to help you . There's no way of knowing what's wrong when all you tell us is that your CPU usage is at 100% .

Also, not all advice given on Basil is bad. Most of the bad advice are in the MS-Tech section. You should go into the the Non MS-Tech, where most serious/helpful answers are given. Edit: Btw, lowering the quality of your graphical settings actually put more stress on your CPU. As well as running it in window mode.

hey this might happened. i guess since you said 2 days ago it startd hitting 100% and since your probably playing on a laptop andn your not use to 100% cpu usage. i say you have a dual core. well this happened to me about a month ago. I was playing maple all d time and doing a bunch of other stuff it never skipped or anything, it was always less than like 80% cpu usage and if it went that high it would just go down and up but never stay at 100. than one day i plugged in my charger and my scn like froze for like a sec. than it flashed off and than on. and i came back i was like wtf. than i started maple and bam it was skippy. i checked out why, my cpu usage was at 99/100% just for playing maple. so i looked at it through the taskmenu bar. or w..e CTRL+alt+del. checked out my proccessors, applitcations. both cores were lit up. well i have vista so there is a way you can tell your computer in the start up whether you want it to start up wtih one core or 2 cores. usually its to core on start. go to search if you have vista. and type in search "msconfig" enter. a window should pop up. than click on "startup" tab, and than click on advanced options it should be in d middle left. around there. now when you clicked on advanced options. go to core usage or something like that. and see if u can click how many cores you want. if you have just 1 core, yet you have a dual core, one of your processors might have messed up. and well if you have both them working and are able to click on both of them. than you probably have a crap load of something running.

go to the task manager, and look at processes. well i think its the one with things under the categories of "sysytem, user, local service" under this tab, you should end all processes that are not EXPLORER.EXE, and maplestory.exe. for the rest in the USER you can safely end. remember onnly the things that are your USER. dont mess with local service or system....

IF he wants to run programs not only may that not help, but it closes everything else.
