Password On Wireless Router?

Honestly I'm no Pro with computers and Especially with my Wireless Internet. I've been having problems with my Internet. I just keep on Disconnecting off Maplestory and the Internet. And then I'd have to disconnect from it and Connect again. My friend says that I should set up a password on my Internet Connection since It's unprotected. I've never really had to set a password before and My family's not that experienced with the Internet Either. Does anyone know a solution to my DCing problem? Or know how to set a Password on a Wireless Router? Preferably How to set a Password Though :P Thanks (:

for me, i just skipped wireless and put my cable in. faster d/l speeds, less chance of d/c. to set a password for wireless, what i had to do for mine was to go to the admin page for the wireless router on my web browser and set it from there. your user manual should (most definitely will) have instructions on how to do it.

Maybe there's an IP conflict. Make it so the IP is set dynamically.

honestly your friend is just guessing. However, there could be several people stealing your internet since without a passwords its open to everybody. It could also be outside interference, modem problem, burned spliters, or several other causes. It would be nice if you could provide us with the brand of your wireless router. However, if the d/cing does not stop after you put a password on I recommend calling your internet service provider and tell them that you have been experiencing several disconnections and to send someone over. Im not sure about your internet service provider but the techies from mine are quite excellent at finding the problem. its quite hard to help someone from a distance specially when it pertains to computers since it could really be anything therefore, your isp would be an excellent choice.
