I know for the archer class you kinda stay away from it, but I'm planning on making a dragon/dark knight but it's a spearman now, is FA good or bad?

Well, i think most people dont add into FA and just be hybrids.

Bad cause it messes up the mobbing. PA is better in 3rd job and Spear is better for 4th. (correct me if im worng)

CallMeCyhard08 : Bad cause it messes up the mobbing. PA is better in 3rd job and Spear is better for 4th. (correct me if im worng) You're basically right. PA= Mobbing and Spear=bossing/mobs of 3 of less In 3rd job you will come across more 6+ mobs and in 4th 4, 3, 2 , or 1. FA doesn't effect you in 3rd job so, if you want, you can get it. It hurts mobbing of 3+, but improves mobs of 2 with Slash Blast. With Power Strike it increase DPM. If you go Hybrid, don't get FA.

I LOVE FA! It hecka helps in MCPQ, just cause you can hit them faster, without any MP spent. But people say that it really sucks. I like it when it's mass mob, otherwise, it helps a bit

it depends on how high you wanna get your character if you're planning on getting it passed 4th job, most people will say just go hybrid with no FA but im pure PA and i have maxed FA. it really just matters if you wanna go hybrid or not

well i wanted to test the fa, so i made a spearman, and fa gets weaker with slash blast, though it is strong at first, but after a melee of 6 monters the damage will reduce to a low damage like 3

IMO FA sucks for spearman, if it's of any use it will be during 2nd job. Because when you hit 3rd job, FA won't work with your attacks (fury or crusher).
plunk654 08/05/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
Last time I checked, crusher has more total damage than dragon fury, even in mobs of 6 or more.

plunk654 : Last time I checked, crusher has more total damage than dragon fury, even in mobs of 6 or more. Nope... Fury which attacks 6 monsters does much more damage with a polearm because of the slash/stab ratio. However, crusher which only attacks up to 3 monsters does superior damage with a spear. That's why you go hybrid and use polearm fury in 3rd job and spear crusher/ spear fury in 4th job.

SilverFoxRplunk654 : Last time I checked, crusher has more total damage than dragon fury, even in mobs of 6 or more. You probably checked with someone who was biased against Pole Arms... or got your information wrong. Spear Crusher is more powerful when the number of monsters you're hitting is low - 1-3 at most. Pole Arm Fury, on the other hand, is more powerful against larger groups of monsters, mainly 4-6. It's like Power Strike vs Slash Blast - Power Strike hits a bigger number on one target, while Slash Blast hits lower numbers, but spread out over 6 targets, ultimately resulting in more damage at once (not to one target, but to all targets). If you don't understand, let me explain it with a simple scenario. Let's say that you have two people and 6 monsters per person. The first person is using Spear Crusher, while the second person is using Pole Arm Fury. For every Crusher, the first person hits only 3 monsters, while for every Pole Arm Fury, the other person is hitting all of them. If both can kill in 1 hit, Fury wins, because all die in one hit, while Crusher needs 2. Additionally, Crusher takes more time to use... if Crusher can 1-hit kill the monsters, but Pole Arm Fury can only 2-hit kill them, Fury still wins, because although they both kill in 2 attacks, Fury attacks faster. Now, for boss killing, Spears are preferred, since you're focusing on one target, not 4-6. For training, Pole Arms are preferred, because the more monsters you kill at once, the more exp per hour (and mob training is pretty much always better). This is pretty much why people go hybrid - to use Pole Arms for training (though many people stop thinking PAs are useful at 4th job... suckers) and Spears for bossing. Now, to answer the TS' question... it depends. Final Attack may slow down your mobbing, but will increase your single-hit potential. Mind you, when you get to 3rd job, you'll be using skills that don't work with FA anyways (another reason why people go Hybrid). Simply put, if you are going pure Spear or pure Pole Arm, you can max all skills in 2nd job for your weapon choice, so you might as well max it. HOWEVER, if you're going Hybrid, don't touch it at all. You will only be able to max Spear and Pole Arm Mastery, Spear and Pole Arm Booster and Hyper Body (or come close enough). So yeah... that's pretty much it: -If Pure Spear/Pole Arm, max if you want - it won't really matter. -If Hybrid, don't max it - you can't afford the points.
