IMHO, Drums. It gives rhythm. Voice counts.

probably piano, because it's so versatile and can be used in virtually any genre. close second would be guitar. i can't see it dying out any time soon.

There's so many different kinds of music it's almost impossible to say. I guess if I HAD to choose, I'd say any kind of guitar since it can be used in any kind of music. @above: Any instrument can have a solo. Your point?
