| Well I guess this proves me right. Half of the Basil PMs that I received following my original post flamed me for my logic, and the other half privately admitted they bought mesos. Well, Nexon's newest letter is below: Nexon said: "Thank you for contacting Nexon America's Customer Support team. Your ban appeal has been denied. We periodically investigate meso activity on all servers. Unfortunately, your account was found to have been involved in the acceptance or distribution of illegally obtained mesos. This could be due to trading with a player who illegally obtained mesos and/or purchasing mesos from a "gold farming" or meso selling website. These website conduct activities that are illegal and completely against our Terms of Use. We strongly suggest that you refrain from being involved in any of the above activities." And my original post, below: Naturally, not everyone will be banned for the same reasons. But hear me out: Consider evidence A, Nexon's response to many logging dispute tickets: Nexon said: " Thank you for contacting Nexon America's Customer Support team. You have been personally witnessed by a GM benefitting from a player using hacking materials, which violates the Terms of Use." I think they're going after meso-buyers. This is very tough for me to prove, since people won't admit to doing it. But it would explain the "benefitting from a player using hacking materials", since meso sellers use hacks. Also, circumstantial evidence B: Many of the banned players are high-level. I sincerely doubt many of them hack directly, else they risk losing everything. They don't have obnoxious names. Most of them don't smega a lot, if at all. But they do have a lot of money... Circumstantial evidence C: The "I was just sitting there" or "I haven't even played for a week" arguments. Don't think for a moment that if Nexon wanted to that they couldn't trace meso exchanges back to a hacking meso-seller. And in that case, they're not going to sneak up on you during the transaction. Nah, they review logs and mass-ban later. I'm sure there will be meso-buyers that get away with it and don't get banned, and others that did buy mesos but won't admit it. But I really, really think that this is at least a partial explanation of what's happening. Since Nexon hasn't made any official statement, it's as good a guess as any. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have never bought mesos and have not been banned. |
