Question about "In search of Miwok Artifact" Quest

In order to get the artifact do I just keep killing random enemies, or is there a certain monster/area to kill monsters that I need to go to find it? Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I have killed everything from pigs to orange mushrooms to wooden masks, they all dropped miwok artifacts, about 1/50 or so. Edit: I just got one after killing about a hundred ligators.
