My father (yes I call him father because I feel that's the relationship I have with him. I look up to him and I don't feel comfortable saying dad) bought me a car today. When I looked at it the first reaction in my head was, "how am I going to drive around in a thing like that?" It's a KIA Soul (We're korean and a close family friend is in the hyundai business and he offers us help with cars so that was a definite factor in my dad's choice KIA) Well I'm not particularly fond with box cars although it is smoother than its competitor Scion xB and Honda Element? But knowing my dad -he bought the car thinking about cost and efficiency (it does have a fairly good professional rating) and he's all into that "uniqueness is cool". (I'm pretty sure if he knew I hated box cars he wouldn't have bought it for me. BTW I dont hate box cars but I'd very much rather buy a compact.) But I thought about it today for a while and as I think about it more and more. I'm really thankful he bought me a car at all. He was thoughtful and considerate. And I'm really grateful. Our father and son relationship is we don't express our emotions to each other and our talks are very short but every word carries its weight, so I was very suprised today. I didn't cry or buy him a nice dinner or anything. All I could really say was thank you. I'm sure he knows how thankful I really am though. I wouldn't mind at all now if all the heads turned to my car and everyone laughed. I'd still drive it around proudly knowing the heart and hands it came from. I hope when I become a father one day I can be as considerate when I'm faced with a decision like this with my future son or daughter. And this thread is I guess just a little appreciation thing althought he'll never read it. I just thought I might share. Yes I kept in mind that there are a lot of trolls on basil and that a lot of people wouldn't care but I posted it anyways. For all those who took the time to read it thanks. [:

What's this? Somebody posting about a gift from their parents and not complaining about how crappy it is? It's a sign of the end . . .

Yep, that's me and my dad. Though I don't call him father since it's just kinda awkward that way.

aw, you're sweet. don't think about the car for a while. when you get older you'll probably stop caring or if you still do, you'd rework it a bit.
