| I sware, I've only been gone from basil for like 3 months, and it seems like 'troll' is what everyone calls people who flame people. Don't get me wrong, I understand what a 'troll' is and I know what flaming is. But it's like in the last 3 months everyone calls people a 'troll' if they have a negative comment, mistaking them for a flamer. It seems like people use this word but don't even know what it means. And I've been seeing a lot of reference to a website with the number four and the first four words of the word channel. (Not trying to get banned here, I'm simply trying to understand this whole thing, I apologize in advance mod's, please don't ban me for trying to learn D: ) I understand it's like the 'troll' headquarters, where 'trolling' started, but have any of these people even been on this website? Someone fill me in here, there's obviously something I'm not getting. Here's a little something to inform you oblivious to a little something called 'Google' and it's engine full of websites to give you information! Urban Dictionary: Troll: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument. Wikipedia: Flaming (Internet): Flaming is a hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. |

| The word 'Troll' is overused here, and at the wrong times too. But thats just how basil rolls. |

| The term is overused, but not to the point where there is no trace of differentiation between 'troll' and 'flamer'. We can still tell the two apart...sometimes. |

If one kid says, "It's cool to say 'Troll'," then the other will follow. And then it all follows a big chain. Whether used correctly or not, they don't care. As long as they say it. -ahem- |

| @above That makes a lot of sense, I've seen this happen a few times with a few words, none of them come to mind right now though unfortunately D: |

Some people actually use the term as a way to point out useful threads, but if other people try to spam it its their choice as well to tell the world that the thread is just a waste of MBs. |

| "A troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or collaborative content community with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion." |

| It's heavily overused, when I just want to joke around and have a little fun for once, I get accused of trolling, it's not like I'm posting spam or anything offensive. >_> That's why I post for a while, then leave, countless accusations are annoying. |
