I'm 18 and just gotten my license few months back. Today I was driving 54 mph at a 35 range and regrettably got a speeding ticket by an officer. What I want to know is how much does the total cost comes out to and what can I do if I can't afford to pay it. I'm getting ready to enter into a top University and my pocket is extremely tight due to the current economic situation. Are their any steps I should be aware about before paying for it? I received the ticket in Anaheim, California.

It can vary, but expect about $250.

You were almost 20 miles above the limit. Where I live, its $10 per mile above, so you are looking at around $200.

Google might say but if it's 10$ per mile it's 200 my friend.

Also, you're screwed for insurance.

If you don't pay, think of " the pursuit of happyness" they lock your car. No worries.

I got my first ticket a little less than a year ago going 73 in a 50 (thought the speed limit was 60). If California works anything like NC, they'll go pretty easy on you since it's your first ticket. They want to scare you and get the standard court fee more than anything. I took a driving class on safety (4 hours), and I would've been good, but one of the district attorney's assistants screwed up and thought I would need to do 20 hours of community service. Anyways, it was reduced to 9 over for what should have been a 4 hours class and 2 trips to the traffic court (it wound up including 20 hours of community service and 4 trips). The real issue is what a ticket will do to your insurance. At our age (I'm 18 now as well), it pretty much doubles your yearly rates. For me, that was about $800 I'd have to pay more each year for 3 years (my parents were making me pay for the ticket). Do whatever you can to get that ticket to 9 under. It should be easy since this is your first ticket. Edit: In NC, you go to traffic court and they outline your options. That's where you do whatever they offer.

xGrandpaChugI think one of the only ways to get it lower is to appeal it, but you don't really have a case. And one of the dudes up is right, your insurance just went ^^^^.

Go to court for it and attempt to fight it in a passive way doing so may save a point on your license which will really jet up the insurance costs. You don't need to win the corut case since most judges at least respect an attempt just don't go overboard and start cussing. If you're REALLY lucky the other police officer won't showup and you may get off clean but don't expect that to happen.
