When a teacher catches you pranking your friend

What is a valid answer for their question, "why did you do that?" The only thing that comes to my mind is, "for the lulz" and if you say that, you'd just get sent to detention or get yelled at in front of everyone like a little 5 year old, ranting about how "that's not funny" or "how old are you?" I know it was immature and stupid, and that's exactly why I did it, so why don't they just send us off asking, "why'd you do that?" I threw jello from the cafe at a buncha friends, a teacher caught me, and asked it. I just went blank for words. So any suggestions guys/girls/genius apes/trolls?

In public, I say, "I'm just trying to show my friends a good time." To teachers, I'd say, "I'm acting out because I feel like you haven't been paying enough attention to my individual needs, which in turn lowers my self-esteem." Feel free to improvise. Your teacher might tae it as you trying to be a smart arse, so just try to sound as sincere as you can. I once made a (female) teacher feel bad for me. Acting, my friend. Learn it.
