 | The term African American comes from the decendants of the 'black people' moving to the Americas, which were mainly slaves from Africa, WHICH happened to be black. Since they are currently reseidents and probably were born in the Americas they are called African Americans (which people tend to think is a more polite way of saying black). In any case, CANADA is in the AMERICAS. USA is NOT America. People always get it wrong. America is a nickname some idiot gave USA. USA (United States OF America) is a country. America is two continents combined, which happen to include Canada. Therefore, your teacher IS African American. But, in any case, calling someone black can be racist, it only depends how to say it out. This also applies to naming people 'retarded'. |
