Bieber was 12 when he came second place in Stratford Idol, a singing competition in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario.[1] In 2007, Bieber's mother set up a YouTube channel, where she uploaded his version of Ne-Yo's So Sick.[2] It was after this that he was discovered by Scooter Braun, marketing executive of So So Def, who subsequently became his manager. Braun introduced Bieber to Usher, who took him to sing infront of L.A. Reid at Island Records.
