| Really, really amazing movie. I give it a 9/10. Story: A man and his wife have two children, an older son (around 9-12) and a deaf daughter (around 4-7). Their third child, Jessica, was a stillborn baby (died in the womb, still had to give birth naturally to dead baby). Seeking the third child they always wanted, they come to an orphanage, in which they find Ester. Ester, around 8-10, is the brightest girl you could have ever met, especially for a foreign child coming from Russia. A little too smart you could say. After befriending the family, she slowly turns into quite the opposite, evil. From there I get into spoilers so I'm not going to go on. In terms of being a "scary" movie, it's not scary. There were a few jumpy scenes, but nothing too bad or over the top. The beauty of the movie, however, comes from the fact that it's a psychological thriller; genius adopted child versus family she got adopted to. The lengths that she goes through to do her evil are quite drastic, and a little hard on the light-stomach-viewers a few times, but very well thought out. Plot twist? Of course. A good one? Better than I would have thought of. Didn't expect it at the least. Action? Of course. Good action? Bette than I had expected from an American made movie. I'd see it again, I'd probably even buy the DVD, and that's saying a lot coming from the person who has only bought two DVD's in their life; Clue and Erin Brokovich. Edit: Also forgot to say that the girl that played Ester did quite possibly the best acting job I've ever seen from a child. Ever. Spoilers are marked and at the end of the comments on the first page. I'm not responsible if anyone quotes them on the later pages |
