first off, I want to establish that evolution is a theory , not a law, and is therefore not yet proven, but used as "the closest explanation to fit the circumstances". Evolution spits in the face of proven scientific laws. Evolution suggests that life came from nonlife, something which science has long proven impossible. Evolution also suggests that over the course of 20 or so million years, apes evolved into humans through natural selection and mutation. However, during the thousands of years of recorded history there has been no example of even small permanent changes being made in any species. In order for humans to have evolved in that time period, the rate of growth would have to be rapid enough that there would be a noticeable difference between even single generations. If people evolved from apes, why is there apes here still, and if you have a reason for why apes are still here, then why aren't ANY of the links between ape and human here? I have a theory for why evolution has been accepted by the general populace as fact. It's because evolution does not favor any religion or culture. Instead it spits in the face of all religions and cultures. It has been supported so much because it is politically less volatile than any creation theory. It's accepted because of it's political value, not it's scientific merit. The general population is then told that smart people believe evolution, and believing in God of any kind is dumb. Teachers are told that they cannot teach creationism because it favors one group over another, but are instructed to teach evolution because it doesn't favor any group. I also think that's why many basilers are so anti-god and anti-religion. They have had it drilled into their head by media and school, and even parents, that evolution is the smart thing to believe, and that it is concrete fact, and that anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant. discuss. Please, no flames. Try to hae a mature, intelligent discussion. thankyou.

I believe in evolution. I believe in creationism as well. It doesn't have to be one or the other; they both fit in rather nicely together. What isn't explained by one is explained by the other.

Evolution =/= How life began... Evolution = how life evolved once it began... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vss1VKN2rf8

He didn't create one kind of organism and then let that evolve into everything else. If you believe some other form of creationism, then I have nothing to say, as i am not knowledgeable of other teachings.

what about the whole "missing piece deal"
fiendfyre11 07/22/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
We didn't evolve from apes. We have a common ancestor from millions of years ago.
sellsword 07/22/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
sellswordwe didnt come from apes! take biology buddy,w e have a common ancestor. We are related to apes, not descended from them. somewhere along the evolutionary line millions of years ago, the species which links us divided and became the line for humans and others for apes. Its much more complicated than that, but you get the idea. And about it being largely pushed into the media and populations, we recieve people like you that think they know everything about it, and then end up making threads on basil because they believe they are smart enough to diffuse it. But think for a second, if you had thought of this, would someone in the past decade or 2 ever thought of this aswell, you arent the first 9/10, would troll again, but try to get a deeper understanding of the topic you are trolling next time

Evolution is not a straight line it's a branching tree. That's why apes are still here.

proknifer said: "what about the whole "missing piece deal"" If you will recall, there was a fossil which supposedly proved a link between dinosaurs and birds, called Archaeopteryx. It can be seen in old textbooks used to prove evolution, but not in new ones, becasue it was discovered that the fossil was actually mixture of separate organisms, which were assumed to be one organism. There have been other examples of this, as well as other fossils which were later found to be two organism's remains and not one (brontasaurus comes to mind). Why should the human missing link be any different? I believe its only a matter of time before they discover it isnt rally a human->ape missing link, but just a mix of remains. p.s. if that is discovered, it conveniently wont recieve as much publicity as priginally discovering the fossil did. edit: at kenzini, why arent any of the missing links here then? wouldn't they have branched off just like the apes? @ sellsword: yes we supposedly have a common ancestor, but why is there not a population of that ancestor here? Also, why is there nothing in between that ancestor -> apes or that ancestor -> humans found alive today, or even found numerously in the fossil record?

God told the authors of the Bible what to write down, and a there are a lot of holes in the Bible. Perhaps there wasn't a word for organism that could be translated in to modern English. There's a lot of possibilities. It doesn't mean christian creationism and evolution can not co-exist. It just means you have to realize that humans make errors(in translation, in dating fossils, in everything). Take everything you know of humans with a grain of salt; because humans make errors all of the time. -Edit- @The last thing you said above. After hundreds and thousands of years, don't you think it's possible for fossils to be destroyed, or still be hidden, by natural causes? Maybe they fell in to a volcano.

We didn't evolve from Apes. Apes and Humans both share a recent common ancestor. Learn about the subject before you challenge it. Also there is a scientist who proved life can come from nonlife I think. I learned about it. A scientist took a whole bunch of gases that made up the atmosphere of Earth back when there was nothing but cells and put them in a tube. When he looked at the tube a couple days later he found life. I don't remember the whole thing though. Edit : Also the ancestor isn't here because animals change to survive. A group of the ancestors split into different environments so they had to adapt to their new surroundings. The 1 half evolved and adapted into apes and the others into humans. The ones that didn't adapt died. Survival of the fittest.

Maybe they fell in to a volcano." organism is the word i use. the bible uses a word which was translated creatures. also, why would only the fossils between species be destroyed? destruction is indescriminant, and yet there are numerous specimens of other fossil species, why not the links between them? if evolution were real, the fossil record would look more like the illustrations in textbooks of an ape slowly becoming a man, and less like an ape standing next to a man. @kingfire, im aware that we are supposedly from a common descendant, but for simplicity's sake (much of basil needs simplicity) i said we come from apes. Also, that experiment was almost certainly contaminated with microorganisms. Its a very tedious process to purge a substance of all life, just ask NASA. Also, did that scientist find organisms which do not exist in the modern day? or were they organisms which do exist now. because for the experiment to prove what he was proving, it would have to have produced an organism which is not yet documented, because it would be the original organism, not a modern one. edit at your edit: if thats the case, then why isnt there more surving groups off the human line, like there are multiple surviving groups off the ape line.
