(Zero in the sign bit indicates positive integer, One in the sign bit indicates negative integer) That means the first bit isn't actually used to represent any part of the number itself, but only whether the number is positive or negative (that's with a SIGNED number, which this value is.) Zero uses ALL the bits: 0 = 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 (Zero is considered to be a positive number) If Wizet had opted for UNSIGNED numbers (where all numbers are assumed to be positive), they could have held exactly TWICE the number of mesos, but they didn't, so we can't. |
