Black Screen of Death

Okay i've been searching around yea... My girlfriend has a very bad problem with her computer now. It's called a Black Screen of Death (KSOD) Apparently this is associated with Vista Premium and Dell computers. When she turns her computer on it starts up fine. The Lil green vista bar comes up and such. But after that no start up noise. No nothing just pitch black. You can see your mouse cursor though - Tried the methods that were listed on this site : http://thebackroomtech.com/2008/12/30/fix-for-windows-vista-black-screen-of-death-aka-ksod/ -Tried Ctrl+Alt+Del -For some reason she can't system restore. She has no save points or they were deleted -Dumb Dell didn't include the vista CD -No keyboard commands work when the black screen pops up. -Tried pulling out all of the plugs and put them back in This happened when she just got finished installing a game called Project Torque. Graphically dependant game, and I heard it might be driver card issues. but I doubt it. -Bleh we also tried booting it up in safe mode she gets the same problem. Black screen visible cursor. no nothing. no keyboard commands If anyone knows how to format without the vista disk. I will be GRATEFUL! If anyone else has any ideas. or can search up some more information. please do. It's really making her sad and such. And I can't even think of waiting for her to get it fix by a professional. Any help is needed.... Thank you for your time <3...

If after the Vista bar comes up, and then goes black from there, how have you tried any in OS commands? First, have you tried booting into safe mode? If it is indeed a graphic driver issue ( dont really see how considering you said you can see your cursor ), safe mode should boot up fine and you should be able to see it since safe mode uses a generic VGA.

Yeaa we tried safe mode and safe mode with networking. We still tried all of the keyboard commands. Even trying sticky keys to no success. Black screen still for safe mode and such. ~_~

you probably had to burn your own recovery disks... happened with my hp so i had to jack... i mean use a blank xp disk and reinstall drivers manually

1) Make sure nothing is plugged into any of your USB ports. This happened to me once, and taking out all of the USB plugs somehow got it to work. 2) When you start up your computer, press F8 or F12 or whatever it is to get into the advanced startup options. Go to the one that says something like 'Start Windows with last known good configuration'.

"Last Known Configuration" didn't work also Shes just going to try and reformat her computer and such... Sigh.. T_T.. Goodbye memories and pictures and musics.

Before that, you should be able boot into a linux live CD to recover your files if you want to.

Before you do that, try It's a download to a Vista recovery disc. Download the torrent, burn to a CD and put it in the computer. Reboot, press ESC (or whatever it says for 'Boot Menu' at the startup), and select the CD from the options. Once it loads, click near the bottom left corner where it will say something like 'Recovery Options' (sorry, this is all from memory). When that loads, a box should pop up showing your Vista install. Click on it and click next. Then, go to 'Fix Start-Up Problems' (again, not sure if that's exactly what it says). Wait for it to do whatever it's doing, and then when it asks you to restart, click yes.

I wont tell you what I'd do in this case though. But seriously, to keep the files, what he said is a good plan.

Then she loads the disk up and stuff and it'll do something funny to save her files? Well sounds liek it's pretty much follow instructions. Thank you so much for sharing ^_^!
