Am I misunderstanding something about shout?

What good is stunning monsters around you? I don't really see the point. At all. Will this actually ever come in handy? Lol Every time I search forums for answers to why shout is considered useful (which I'm not even sure is true) I just get a bunch of people talking about how 200% vertical/horizontal range stun, and the fact that the stun lasts so long makes it worth maxing. Why? Why would I stun a monster? Especially with a skill that doesn't even deal enough damage to make it worth the time/effort? I feel as if though I'm overlooking something. And please, I know what some will say. Something to the effect of "What else is there to spend the points on?". That's not what I'm asking though. I'm simply asking questions about shout. Not whether or not I should max it. That's up to me.

ryannosauryou're right. it's not a very useful skill. It's a given that stun is essential to pot conservation. It's what allows a white knight/paladin to train effectively while receiving very little damage due to ACB's stun. Crusaders also have stun skills, coma and shout, but unlike the white knight's charged blow, the stun from both skills gets canceled by the next attack. Stun is pretty useful because it momentarily thwarts a monster's attack and movement. It wears off rather quickly (coma 7 seconds, shout ~12 seconds), but if timed perfectly you can save yourself from touch/magic damage using this skill. however, shout is perhaps a crusader's most useless attack skill. it's flashy, it's ranged, it does mediocre damage, but the slow cast time in conjunction with the cancellation after the next attack drastically limits its use. therefore in any situation, it's better to use coma even if you aren't at max orbs. coma's range is 150, nearly the range of shout. the only advantage shout really has over coma is that it hits monsters behind you, but really no one's dumb enough to aggravate a monster behind them when they're already facing a mob in front.

Aside CWKPQ, or doing the skill for fun, the only time I've used it was so my Arch Mage friend or myself could climb up the rope at newties.... I hate those things.

evilkazI use it if I have mobs at both sides of me, I would stun the mob on one side while killing the other side. But thats only if i can be bothered. Its also good for killing stuff on noob quests :P

Alright thanks guys, my decision has been made. Leaving shout at level 4. I regret even putting 4 points in it. I'd rather max out axe mastery and booster. I have fun switching weapons, regardless of efficiency. I have no fun at all shouting. The newtie thing is smart. I think that's probably the best thing about it. Stun so you can climb up the rope. I hate auto-aggro monsters+ropes/ladders. D====

The reason behind it is quite simple: MPQ Being able to say "J PQ ATTACKER OR PROTECTOR" has guaranteed me spots in MPQ i wouldn't have gotten otherwise, especially since nobody wants to get a low 70's person on their team. People are stunned, they say "but your a warrior, you can't protect" and you explain the glitch at lvl 4, and they let you in pq. I am getting through my 70's SO fast because I am always getting added to protect romeo/juliet. So yeah, I definitely do no regret lvl 4 shout at all.

That's you, I got from 7x-9x in three days. That's not a problem for me. In fact, training is not a problem. Shout plays no part in my training. Although, I don't recall any cool axes worth equipping. So I'm re-thinking the shout thing.
WolfJounin 07/21/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
WolfJouninI plan on maxing Shout, but not to use it during training. I'll be using it to farm items during events, like maple anniversary when weaker enemies drop highly-sought after items, or something like that. You see where I'm going with this? Sure, Rush makes it easier on warriors to hunt for items in the 4th job, but what if it is a vertical map, where you can just stand on a platform and kill the enemies on the ones above and below you. I guess this is probably because I like having range when hunting for items.

evilkazThere is really nothing better to point points on.

Pretty much there's no situation where a sword won't out do an axe, so you don't really need to put points into booster/mastery, as you'll probably never use an axe for training/bossing. You can still equip axes for looks though. That's one reason I don't like saders, too many points than you know what to do with.

is only lvl 4 glitched to 100% stun? or does it continue to 100% after lvl 4?

Just max shout.....the extra range is worth it. I've round it useful at a lot of places, but its more of a utility skill than an attacking skill. A lot of people don't know what that means...so they don't understand. 1. Himes. An effective way to stun the ones behind you that you can't KB but are hitting the priest. The priest then gets to heal attack without reprisal. 2. Keeping an opponent off the top of a ladder. This is one of the reasons why you might want it maxed. 3. As a crusader, if you want to fight 1v1, shout helps. As a hero, there's no difference between 1v1 and 1v3. 4. Fast aggro at typhons, for people who go there 5. stunning goby houses without having to stand right next to them. Although this is fairly moot, by the time shout is maxed you shouldn't be there anymore. Basically, its not the most useless skill.... Armour crash is the most useless skill. It has only two uses. 1. Spamming on a rope before jumping in, granting you one or two unarmoured hits before they buff again (and delaying them using magic attack, since they are coded to rebuff first) 2. spamming in front of lord pirate when he buffs and there is no priest with dispel in the party. However, its not as useless as power or magic crash. Those have no uses whatsoever, since neither affects your ability to kill the monster.
