Definition of idiosyncratic speech Idiosyncrasy : a characteristic, habit, mannerism or the like, that is peculiar to an individual or a individual group of people. Which leads onto-... Idiosyncratic speech : text which emulates speech using colloquialisms, mundane dialects and speech impediments to show a distinct individual tone. Idiosyncratic speech =/= Signature Firstly, it can be a signature. Technically, a signature is defined distinguishing touch. But not in the sense as an internet signature. An internet signature is defined as: a tagline at the end of every post which reflects a saying or phrase which a user is particularly fond of, it does not have any relevance or coherence to the post. The difference This is idiosyncratic speech: So I heard ya'll where going down to the park, to pick up some of 'em chickens, yar? Darn tootin', they be mighty fine chickens for a feast la. This is a signature : Hmmm, I don't like that advertisement. ---------73% of all statistics are made up on the spot-------- How this is applicable to Basil Signatures if I'm not mistaken, aren't allowed. Idiosyncratic speech, if I'm not mistaken hasn't ever been banned on any forum. Therefore, la, aya, erhm, hmmm, errrr, oi, ewww are technically allowed in Basil. But they are annoying. So are a lot of things in life m'dear.

I was expecting angramainyu to have made this thread w/ all that vocabulary & whatnot. What a surprise. In any case, it is plain and clear that signatures like the ones you described, at the end of your posts, are not allowed here. Sometimes when the so-called "idiosyncratic speech" gets too distracting, it can actually become spam... and we all know what happens when you spam. :o

I'd use it if there was a good word. I mean using Indian words on basil isn't my idea of fun. 'What's up re?' 'What you doin' da?'

This would have been useful in the original thread. Just let him use aya; This shouldn't even be an issue to begin with. People just like whining for the sake of whining. Give the masses an opportunity to rampage down the streets screaming, "HYPOCRISY OF THE AUTHORITIES! CORRUPTION!" and what do you know, they will.
