| I just graduated 5th grade. Right now at this summer program I'm learning algebra. How do you do these problems? If 6y = 2x + 6, then which of the following equals 3y? X 6-x please help me I need an explanation on how to do it. I don't know how to do this. X+3. Also, please include the answer. X+6 2x+e Sorry about the format and the hw help thread I didn't find anything specific. |

| Ok, you need to find out y, and if you can isolate the y variable, it's easy. So, do this 6y=2x+6 6y=(2x6)+6 6y=12+6 6y=18 6y/6=18/6 y=3 then you multiply y by 3, which gives you 9. So, just do opposite equations to lower the numbers until you are left with y on one side, and one number on the other. (not a very good explanation, but try to get it.) |

I believe that the x in 2x + 6 is supposed to be a variable, rather than a multiplication sign which is usually notated as * while typing. |

And with the dividing by 2 thing, I would have said that. The thread starter was really unclear, and I though he just wanted the value of y. xP @ imaDOCTOR. I KNOW! If you were good at math, you'd know and understand that I did NOT treat it as a multiplication sign. When a number and a variable are beside each other, like 5v, you multiply 5 by whatever v is. And the starter said that x=6. |

| If you see a common factor between 6y=2x+6... you just divide that out and luckily it's 2, which means 6y divided by 2 is 3y. Now divide 2x+6 by 2 and you get 3y=x+3. Explanation: Simplify the equation? I don't know how to explain it. |
