Um what are mini dungeons, where are they, and what is so special about them?

Mini dungeons are single maps for hunting a single species of monsters (or two species, depending on the dungeon). They have a timer of 2 hours, though. Various mini-dungeons include the lair of drumming bunnies (with drumming bunnies, obviously) in the eos tower, the critical error (with roids) in magatia's alcadno labs or the pig farm (pigs and ribbon pigs) on a map east of henesys. It is mostly better to hunt there if ya only need to hunt those specific monsters and because ya have a map for yar own created (no ks'ers, wooo).

Are they in a portal? Is there an NPC?

there is a mini dungeon in ant tunnel now, idk if its new but I had never seen it before

There's always a portal there, usually also marked on the map. Ya can also check the world map, it shows which maps include a mini-dungeon.
