Hello I'm considering buying the orange box for pc. My problem is that I dont know the difference between half life 2 episode 1 and 2 and half life 2. Also my brother already has half life 2 installed on his steam account, will I be able to use the same cd to install it on to my steam account? Thank you.

As for your first question, it contains the games: Portal, Team Fortress 2, and two 'episodes' of Half-Life 2. The first episode is mainly the storyline of Half-Life 2, while episode 2 is like a sequal. It's pretty much like 1 game in 2 parts.
